I agree with wheelspinner, Its worth what you want to pay. I bought my 1009 as a beater for $2,500 back in 2011 but started to fix it up because I love that truck so much. With all the military accessories I added, I now have about $5,000 in it and it sits in the front driveway just for show...
Sounds like your son is not telling you the whole story. How much mudding did he do? How deep in the mud did he get? Was he racing the engine while stuck? It could be a simple thing or multiple of things causing the issues.
As Tinstar noted about your brake fluid leak. If you go back to your photos you posted of your 1009 you can see the leak on your inner fender. This is most likely your source of the oily spots on your tailgate. You also may want to look on the back side of your front differential, the photo...
Not all true.
Mine apparently only leaked while running and under pressure. I never had hard starting issues, that's why when I saw the drips in the driveway I assumed it was oil.
I would have bet the farm on an oil leak in mine but like cpf240 says, mine was leaking fuel from a cracked fuel line nut at the injector pump. Very common problem with old lines and all that vibration.
Are all your next door neighbors running to your homeowners association yet? I bet you gained a lot of (what is he up to now) and (I wonder if he's going to ride those at 2 in the morning)
Nice looking job and a great way to repurpose an old trailer. How is the balance on the trailer nose working out? You may have to add a few leg supports.
im having surge brake issues when i hit bumps or have a heavy load in the trailer
What type of issues are you having? If the trailer brakes lock up and release (usually in rapid succession) when your slowing down it may be the small shock inside the surge brake is worn out.
