Without a functioning air pack, that is what you are doing. That appears to be a short air pack. There is a long one also. They interchange.

We removed the dust cover and used pressure cleaning to eliminate the dust and crud. Then we sprayed white lithium grease into the bearings, turned the mount round and round until it freed up. I have not checked it in some time so I do not k now how often it needs greasing. Ours sits outside...

My guess is the paper gasket for the piston cylinder will be too small. Mine are all NOS. But, keep us posted.
