OK, did some reading. I'm just going to state that there is a whole lot about batteries that I don't know and there is way too much info to boil down into one post. If you are really interested, the two books I have on my bookshelf which are quite good:
Linden's Handbook of Batteries 4th Ed...
The power steering gear are rated by front end weight (at least the ones that I have seen). The 2-port HF54 is rated for a 5k, 5.5k, 6k, and 7k lb axles. When combined with a slave cylinder, the 4-port HF54 is usable with a 9k lb axle.
We've done a fair amount of work and research in renewable energy using lead acid batteries and I've never heard of this. All of the chargers that I have seen on the market (and all of the ones we use) do a two or three step charging: bulk (current limited), adsorption (constant voltage), and...
Distilled water is NOT 18Mohm resistivity de-ionized "pure" water. Further, DI water quickly degrades to plain old water if exposed to the atmosphere which is what you have in most distilled water systems.
Wouldn't we be seeing evidence of rod bearing failure first? A cam is not loaded nearly as much as a rod. The Cummins 5.9 only has one replaceable cam bearing; the rest ride directly in the block.
The multifuel capability requires the higher 22:1 compression. The tractor engine is otherwise very similar and many tractor re-builders use the military pistons to make it easier to start. I guess what worries me (and why I didn't pursue higher horsepower) are the reports of cracks on the...
Well, I have a spare rebuilt wastegate turbo set up withe larger LDS465-2 compressor and housing ready to bolt on..... And I turned the fuel down.
As to the head flow capability. Does anyone actually have any numbers?
I purchased 1/16" and 1/4" thick drops from rubberman on ebay. I used a pen to trace out the old (or new cork gasket) on the sheet and then cut it out with an xacto knife. I'd highly suggest the silicone sheet for a valve cover gasket. Seals well and is re-usable when you need to do valve...
I have had both the civilian and military 302s and, while I can't verify 100%, I do believe that there is no difference in the pan rail. I have had good luck making my own gaskets from silicone sheet. The cork always seems to leak.
But Continental/ White/ Hercules, etc did produce these engines for farm tractors and prime movers for generators (diesel and spark ignition). Somebody certainly knows the engineering history and I would bet that the military knew of a change order.
I have pulled several OA331 and several multi. In fact, I pulled an OA331 using a cheap parts store engine crane. Not going to do that with a multi. I stand by my prior comment.
The LDS wastegate turbo clears both the stock and gear reduction starters. I can say with reasonable certainty that the 3LM466 is physically smaller than the LDS wastegate turbo and should fit fine. It may even be a smaller flange size.
I have found that engaging the flame heater briefly before you crank the engine results in a noticeable response from the engine in wanting to start. I realize that the "TM is gospel" folks are going to have a fit but I see no reason why this is bad practice. I otherwise would probably never...
