I have three rims apart, wire brushed and then I'm going to media blast them down to bare metal and then shoot them with primer. I've flaps and tires, I just need to go get tubes. I found a shop that has them for $15 each which seems reasonable. I'll be mounting them up sometime this weekend...
Talking with a friend of mine, he says that the FMTV's do well up until something breaks theny they're dead dead dead.
Few small problems, big problems are a show stopper. Loose the electrics the truck doesn't run. Loose the hydraulics, the truck doesn't run, etc.
On deuces, you can have lots...
RE: Re: RE: Hydraulic Dump Bed and Winch?
Nope. That'd be WAAY too big. I want deuce parts in basic form that I can bolt right up. Perhaps the valves, but I haven't seen any getting parted out. I suppose I could Ask CSI Inc over in Dallas Ga.
Re: RE: Hydraulic Dump Bed and Winch?
I'm probably going to go with a pair of solenoid operated valve. That way I can get out of the truck and stand to the side with the paddle control (two double throw three position switches for the winch and for the hoist) and then supervise the winching...
Well, if you raise the bed and then start lifting, the end of the shelter should get pretty close to the edge of the bed, depending on dump angle. One possible issue is if the whole shebang tries to get unstable on you or not. You'd be lifting the end of the shelter a fair amount. Though I...
One thing I realized at work is that to pull the rear plugs you're in for a real pain. Think the rear glowplugs on the 6.2 are hard? The distributor is impossible to get to. It's right at the rear of the engine way inside that cave.
So, I'm starting to think about dump bed hydraulics and the winch for the bed for assisted loading. The general idea is to have a winch at the top of the bed so I can load and unload my own S280 shelter vis a vis a roll back wrecker. Some small ramps easy to handle would help support the edge...
They Buffed/Belted all the Grade 8 hardware down to smooth heads. You can't tell that they're grade 8 any more. Shackles that are bolted on with smooth headed bolts.
Swapped out the Diesel with a 454 Gasser Chevy engine, that's good because you can't get diesel just anywhere...?
I just love...
RE: Re: RE: M105 Tow ring flip and other questions.
An air impact hammer rattling away at the casting that holds the tapered eye shaft works VERY well to force them out. Squirttruck, a friend of his and I flipped 3 of these fast with that setup.
I don't know, but those stamped crossmembers (same as the frame) have bracing in the back and they seem pretty stout. I'd expect the trailer to fail before the truck all things considered.
