Seems like a good PM task when doing these wheels is to strip the rims, lightly blast them to get off rust and to prime and re-paint them. Going at the bead with a bit of blast media might be a good idea no? Really clean it up and get it clear of rust or other problems.
The Huskeys and Meerkat are cool systems which pass their lineage back to Pookie, also from that part of Africa, though from the defunct nation of Rhodesia (many of the Rhodesian ex-pats settled in South Africa where the Meerkat/Huskey system are built. Of course these are best used against...
Last I'd heard the platter charges were kinda scarce. Oh, the bloody syrians. They were supplying those platter charges to Hezballah in their shenanigans against Israel. Them and Iran, I think they're looking for a little tussel with the USAF and USN.
You guys using the Buffalo that Force...
RE: big bad boomers
What will save you is not being _NEXT_ to or OVER the IED. Culvert mines are the worst. Jungle Dragoon (one of my favorite books) has the author talking about M48s driving over command detonated 500 lb bombs buried in the road. Often times the only thing saving the crew is...
The other issue with remote detonated IED's on the road or just off of it, is that they're most effective when it goes off right below you or just beside you. 152mm 3 or 4 bangers (several 152mm HE shells daisey chained together) can really ruin the day of any tracked or wheeled armored vehicle...
Will it stop the "jet" from penetrating. Most likely not. Will it protect the crew from the secondary blast effects from a near miss with an RPG? Sure will. Say the RPG round hits the tires or the cargo bed or just the ground, that armored cab will spell the difference between a hard knock and...
RE: Re: XM983 idea
Four axle front steer shouldn't be too hard or you could be sneaky and make the rear axle steer with the middle pair fixed like a lot of soviet gear.
The vinyl cargo covers have the side rollups integral to the cover and the ends are fitted to the cover itself and also have integral straps for rolling them up.
Clinto, you would expect that, but the problem is that as soon as you get everything setup for just that sort of low intensity conflict we'll get hit with another major land war type battle and our troops will take it on the chin because we've ditched all the heavy forces (turned them into reefs...
There has been call to armor trucks in the past. Usually it involved low intensity conflicts or against guerilla operations. US convoys in Vietnam took it on the chin because they didn't armor up more than the gun trucks. The Rhodesians and South Africans had to fight in the bush for a long time...
RE: Pics of S250 shelters with complete radio installations?
The S250 I saw that had the gear was offered to me when I was there for $250. It had some damage on the upper front but looked easily repairable.
