I am in the process of switching an M919 chassis over to super singles. I bought 2 piece HEMTT rims from Sermis and plan to run the Michelin 16R20 XZL. I changed over one of the rear axles without too much problem. I then swithced to the front and ran into a problem with the rim, especially...
There is an M819 in Colorado Springs, CO that has a seized engine, but it is for sale cheap. If interested, please send me a PM for the contact information.
Can anyone give me some ideas on engine prices? I need one for a M809 series project. What does a 250 sell for new/rebuilt/used? How much for a 400? I know a few mods would be needed, but a little more power couldn't help!
Since I first laid my eyes on this M920 from ebay, I have been on a mission to get a M920 and add 16R20 super singles. I need more information as to what wheels were used and if the hubs required any machining. Unfortuantely, I know longer have the contact information for Jeff, the seller...
I picked up some aerial slings at Fort Riley last week. These are normally used for airlift operations but I thought they would be handy to use with a wrecker/crane and each one could be used as a tow rope too. They come in 2 sizes, 10,000# and 25,000#. While at Riley, I snapped pics of two...
Have you used HEMTT rims to add super singles to your 5 ton? If so, can you help me with these questions?
1) Are your rims bolt together or split ring?
2) Did you have enough threads on the front axle to fully seat the lugnuts?
3) What is the difference in width/track on the front vs. rear...
I have seen similar inserts used on HMMWVs but does anyone know much about the 20" ones? What vehicle(s) are they used on? How does one insert them into a tire?
I found some information on http://www.forceprotection.net/ but was hoping for some first hand knowledge...
Holy cow, batteries are expensive! Today, I picked up 4 of the 6TLs for $126.95 each and 6 of the Group 31 Blems for $34.95 each. I have been running 2 Group 31 Blems in 5 tons to save money, but I decided to get 4 new 6tls to put in the M816.
Is anyone running 4 Group 31s in a 5 ton? Can...
I love spending time on Don Busack's www.primeportal.net He has collected thousands of good mv related pics. There is a photo diary of the 200th Engineers, a National Guard bridging unit, that covers activation until they returned home from Iraq. After going through the diary, I thought I...
I need shear pins for the front winches on M809 series 5 tons. Does anyone have any or have a good source? I have contacted several places and so far only Memphis has responded that they have them ($$$). I would buy a dozen or so if I can find a reasonable price.
I need (want) a good trailer to haul around a couple of MVs. I haven't found any military trailer that is well suited for the application, but commercial ones are always so expensive. I saw this one on ebay recently and got outbid. I think it is perfect setup for hauling just about anything...
I was going through some old pictures and I found this one taken at a rest area along the interstate. It is good shot that gives some perspective. Compare the M812 to the 4 door, 1 ton 4x4 dually behind it or the semi truck in the pic. The bed on a bridge truck is about 6 feet in the air...

I'm interested in bobbing a 5 ton. I have seen pics on Dave's Eastern Surplus website, but not many others. Has anyone here bobbed a 5 ton or have some pics to share?
I have decided to part with the M819 and have sold it. I took a few pics to remember her by when she is gone. Even though she isn't OD or CARC, I'm still gonna miss her! Tractor/wrecker combinations are sweet!
I had to do a one man recovery this weekend with the big towbar. It was a challenge, but not nearly as bad as I expected. (The wrecker helped out tremendously.) Next time, it would be a lot easier if I could find some 1.5" adapters for the medium towbar. Anyone have any?
