Boat trailer rollers and bumpers work great also, they are quite a bit softer and have a steel insert for the hole, plus they come in a number of different sizes and lengths.
it depends on what your welding how large and area etc. The frame members for the LMTV are heat treated steel so it will need to be re-treated after welding.
A Detroit style locker will not fully lock unless there is torque being applied to the housing. With little torque application going around a corner one wheel is disengaged or ratchets to compensate for the speed difference.

1400R20's fit.. 1600R20's won't clear the front stowage boxes at full lock, and if you have a winch the hydraulic fluid tank guard won't clear either. I think with a 2 inch cab lift 2 inch suspension lift and some trimming it will all work well with 1600R20's.
