The Neihoff alternator used in the LMTV is light years ahead of any other automotive type alternator, regarding reliability. It's an induction type alternator which means no brushes to wear out and it also can operate submerged. Parts are also readily available if you know where to look.
If your slip yoke is worn out then common sense would be to have it replaced, every slip yoke I've seen however the splines are coated with what appears to be teflon, and proper greasing of the slip yoke will ensure that it will last a very long time. It sounds to me like some people just like...
I didn't know that shocks were a problem. The factory ones certainly took a beating on my 120 mile offroad trip down the seashore and back. The truck ran it at 35-45 mph without issue.
Honestly I don't think theft is a problem with the LMTV, unless your thief knows how to operate one. It would take some fumbling to figure out what switches to operate and then he will have to wait a couple minutes for air pressure to build up. This is als assuming they know where the battery...
I was having an issue with compressors on my A1, one broke a rod and the replacement was extra "Rattly". I also noticed the air pressure guages were pegged to the right and there was a constant bleed of air at the rear of the truck.. Well I replaced the air governor and all of the above went...
Is the factory 100 amp alternator enough to power a 12,000 btu unit? A 12K but unit is ~3500W and at full capacity the alternator is a 2400W alternator. If you go with the 200 amp unit that yields 4800W of charging capacity but it also adds another grand to the price.
Turbo and fuel injector setting, possible fuel governor.
The 290 HP turbo is different from the 225 however caterpillar has supersceeded the 225 turbo to the 290 turbo as a replacement part.
I know a person who does hot shots and charges $1.50 a mile. He has delivered a few of my trucks. Although I will add he's not shipped an M1079 so I am not sure at to the height requirements.
