love handles
If these were for mechanics to pull themselves around under the truck, how much do those mechanics weigh? These 'handles' look rather sturdy.
tie downs
On my 1987 I have 7 of 'em down each frame rail on the outside, 14 total. These are beefier than the ones on my former 1971 deuce and I think the older truck only had a total of 10. Surely these are for chaining the truck down on; railcars, in ships, in cargo planes. In the pic...
40 miles a month keeps the mechanicals okay......
I totally agree on this and have been practicing this preventative maintenance for about two years. Last weekend I went on a 30 to 40 mile drive, made a big square on the map essentially, on county roads and my friend followed me in his 1966...
the journey begins....
My first deuce was a '70, was a good truck, now I have a '87 and it is the same except for dual air packs brake system and dropside bed.
You gain a lot if you can find someone in your area that owns one and you can talk to them for hours and ask questions and see one of...
dealers
if it helps, maybe research the websites of dealers and see what they get for their parts. There are large dealers here in the states we get our parts from, some have been doing it since WWII.
Memphis Equipment, Saturn Surplus, Eastern Surplus, Boyce Equipment, Jatonka, etc. Maybe...
have fun
very interesting, congrats and thanks for posting your story. When I got my latest truck from GL, I changed all the fluids and filters and the fuel filters were loaded with brown goo, also an inch of brown goo in the bottom of the fuel tank. Your truck may smoke less and shift...
Mr. emmado22, you asked about the unit for that tank. Still researching but found another pic of the same vehicle and using my magnifying glass, it looks like it shows: " 4 ID 1-221 X " but the X appears it may be crossed cannon barrels. Some folks on this site serve on Ft. Carson...
the names have been changed to protect the innocent
I really agree with the rule for just a couple of reasons that I can think of right now...1) the colusion thing, let's say there are 20 nice M-101 or m-105 trailers at one site on the same day, folks could discuss which one each party was...
M1075, it's just you. :D I have seen pics and vids recently of our folks in afghanistan with the latest MRAP vehicles from Oshkosh with the towbar installed, ready to go. I would guess it is for when a perfectly good vehicle gets shot up or partially blowed up, the others can grab it and take...
whatever works
I've turned my former air force reserve truck into a marine corps league truck.
I got the 1987 truck last year from GL with 13,800 miles on it and appears to be original miles, they just didn't use it, it just sat here all its life at Peterson AFB next to the truck steelandcanvas...
if this helps
I keep my fuel tank full all the time, less likely to get water in the fuel that way. Picture a deuce tank half full, that is 25 gallons of air on top of the fuel that warms up in the sun during the day and some air escapes, then cool down at nite and moist air is sucked in...
Does the party whom started this thread reside in Nigeria? I am afraid to give up my deuce's personal info. : )
Okay, the serial # on me 1987 M35a2c, sibling to steelandcanvas' is;

retro fit/morphing/frankenstein
I believe this program took place in the early '90's, they were able to get about 2 a3's built out of using 3 deuces for parts. Met a guy at a car show here who worked at the plant in Indianna during this program. The hood was widened four inches because the cat...
wow that will be an epic journey. I went to see family in St. Louis 3 yrs ago at Christmas and on the way back westbound, Interstate 70 was closed between Colby, KS and Denver. The steady strong wind from the north kept blowing the snow back onto the highway, the crews could not keep up with...
read a lot on this site.....
IMHO, time after time, there seems to be an inordinate amount of nice trucks on GL at a place in the state just north of you. Best of luck, and don't worry about getting it right the first time, buy and sell.
switch may not be labeled but it is unique looking. Mounted at bottom of dash, center area of cab. In the first pic, it is to the left of the transmission shifter. On it, it may show the words, 'IN' and 'Out'. The tow rig and trailer set-up you mention sounds real good for carrying a...
