I think the guys who buy at swap meets have it dialed in. No dealings with GL = no headaches.
I know, i know-- good stuff is there to be had but what's it gonna take to rein these GL guys in?
They name the game and we all have to play by their rules; then just when we're getting the hang of it...
Sean,
Just about the time you guys decide you've been staring at the world's biggest lawn ornament, I'll roll up in the baby HEMTT. Don't give up hope.
The Cessna hydraulic pump is direct coupled to a Chelsea PTO which bolts into the PTO pad on the passenger side of the Allison transmission case.
PTO is hydraulically engaged using transmission line pressure through an electric solenoid valve.
Although the PTOs are "hot shift" (built to be...
m35tech, I've got a folder full. PM me you email address and I'll get something out to you.
Kenny, Rizzo... just one question; 'Does this crane make my butt look big?'
CARC is a polyurethane coating so I'd figure soapy water would do the trick on oil spots. CARC showing scuffs and scratches is a fact of life so you might have to end up washing the whole truck to keep things even.
Hats off to dma251. That guy doesn't know the meaning of the term "take some time off for yourself".
Not only did he track down and work a super deal on a HEMTT crane for me.
He's also spent untold hours taking measurements off of his HEMTT so I could fab up the support brackets-- last week he...
Stiff bristled, scrub brush and lots of elbow grease once it's on.
You can prevent it next time by making up a mixture of liquid dish soap and water stiff enough so that it's not so watery as to run (about the consistancy of cooking oil).
Brush it on the rubber and let it dry. Any overspray will...
The only thing the cup provides is a way to make the tie-down flush so loads don't drag against them.
Welding the cup on from the outside eliminates the possibility of pulling it off if the weld is sub-standard.
The cleanest way to put the 4" hole in is to use a Greenlee punch; followed either...
Our motor pool Sgt. always said that diesel was preferred and the other fuels were strictly get-you-out-of-the-line-of-fire-and-home substitutes.
With the 'thinner' fuels, he insisted on adding motor oil to the fuel so there was something there to lube the IP. 13 1/2 months in-country and we...
An OD in the shade of your choice; 383 green, kahki, or ?, would be in keeping with a lot of MVs. If the engine's covered it's probably gonna be black, but if exposed during operation or maintenance in the field the tendency is to give it a coat of 383 green too.
Kinda hard to work camouflage...
RE: Re: motor life span
A couple of guys in the Cummins club have 1,000,000+ miles on their 5.9s. Thanks in a large part to religious adherance to maintenance schedules and not being heavy-handed with them. They don't need to be babied; just treated right.
The UP demands 1,000,000+ miles out of...
If you're talking round reflectors-- they're a pretty standard size and readily available.
If you're going for authentic; you might also search the site for 'delineation plates'. They're the bigger, square, red and yellow reflectors seen on most all MVs in the European Theatre.
That's a "composite light"; composite meaning plastic body and/or face-plate. The thin LED versions you're seeing are the replacement face-plates that go on the bodies once the bulb socket assys. are removed. $800.00 does seem a little high stateside but I'm not sure what you're up against in...
Run a tankful of straight fresh diesel in it. Atfter a week or so, sniff the exhaust pipe after you've shut it down. Oil will smell like oil-- diesel, if going bad, will have a strong not-quite-diesel smell. If it smells sweet, start looking for coolant loss as it may be anti-freeze.
I used Budd 10.00X20 wheels on the 5 ton axles under the baby HEMTT and have no problems with clearance. There's a drwg. (mislabeled 11.00X20) in the Library in the tech. articles section.
Hmmm, tough one. Sounds like you need one of those mil. spec.fortune telling 8-balls. You flip it over and it says something like; "All signs point to the deuce".
The Bendix units have an interchangable heater so all you do is install the one for your voltage. If you have a truck wrecking yard...
When you can, get your air dryer installed; it's by far the best solution. My Bendix unit also has a filter element so the system gets dry, filtered air.
No moisture from the get go means; no icing, no water or rustouts in the air tanks, no corrosion in brake valves or air pots-- plus, no...
