    Engine & transmission swap questions

Has nothing too do with being cool, Has everything to do with reliability and the stock engine has more power. The 6.2l blocks are considered a light duty diesel. Why buy a newer truck, well I have done the math its actually cheaper to buy an old truck really cheap and maintain it, fix rust...

different types of transmissions for m1028

I agree with dstang97 lots of company's out there that build heavy duty / high performance 700r4's but the cases are very weak, especially if you put a np205 behind one, there notorious for breaking at the back where the adapter bolts to the 4 bolts on the case.

    Rear Axle (Gov Locker)

I guess I'm not conveying how load this bang is, put it this way take an m-80 light it throw it in a steel can and stick it next too your ear, that's how loud this banging was. When truck was in the air and I was rocking tire back and forth too unlock the locker it would bind the tire were I...

    Rear Axle (Gov Locker)

Fluid was full I usually check it every 3000 miles when I do oil change. All the teeth on ring and pinion were in perfect condition, and all the teeth on the locker were perfect. no shavings or small pieces of metal any were in fluid. Bearings and races were in perfect shape. No play in...

    Rear Axle (Gov Locker)

I think your right on the detriot locker part though, I have never seen one expect for a pic, simplest darn things I have ever seen. Before I pulled everything apart, with truck in air the right tire would disengage the locker, now the left tire disengages the locker. Looks like this rear end...

    Rear Axle (Gov Locker)

I know the locker is supposed to make noise, its a clicking or ratcheting noise not a banging or loud clunking. My other m1008 has a nice clicking noise, the other m1008 was a banging followed by wheel binding up for a second or two before it would turning again.

    Rear Axle (Gov Locker)

m1008. Put it back together, sounds alot better and looks like its working correctly.

    Rear Axle (Gov Locker)

I have a real weird one here, maybe someone can shed some light on this. My gov locker was making banging and clucking noises when engaging and disengaging, so I pulled it apart today. I was expecting to see small chunks of metal or a broken spring, ya-know something broken. Well when I...

    Engine & transmission swap questions

:ditto:use engine, harness, PCM, and trans, take the np241 transfer case off and find a np205 off of a 1987-93 dodge cummins automatic (must be auto the manual has a different spline count won't work on the auto), the np205 drops on the correct side(passenger) and its alot stronger than the...

    What too buy?

I also haul things for my friends from time too time, one of them asked me to haul a d5 dozer, I just laughed because the pintle hook on the cucv can't barely pull a 3000 pound trailer before it would rip bumper of, so pullin heavy loaded trailer would be nice to.

    What too buy?

I heat with wood. my friends duece, he also heats with wood and takes it offroad, pretty amazing what they can go through e.g. mud, fallen trees, etc. There have been a couple of places he went through that I wouldn't be able too without a lift and bigger tires for my cucv. my cucv only do 55...

    What too buy?

Thanks for all the posts so far! Sorry the analogy wasn't meant to compare speed per say but power too weight ratio. I did see some useful posts about increasing power on the mod/hotrod section. No not looking for a truck to blow someones doors off, just have some respectable...

    What too buy?

I guess I'm comparing too my 625 hp cat in the peterbuilt I drive, I weigh in close too 70 ton loaded with gas and it pulled the same hill faster than the duece. I was doing 40 at the top and he(duece was doing 25. Here's a pic of my truck.

    What too buy?

Looked at forums in both 2.5 and 5 ton, from what I can tell the 2.5 is a little easier to drive. The 5 ton is more heavy duty like M813A1 said. I do like the cummins  oh ya!

    What too buy?

If you guys wouldn't mind some of the major differences....don't need long drawn out comments.....just a few differences. My friends dad got a 2.5 a few months ago and he let me drive it:jumpin: it was awesome[thumbzup] but way underpowered are 5 tons more powerful?
