If it's turning over 4 or 5 seconds then it's probally got a fuel or air in fuel problem. Mine turns less than a second before it fires. Unless it's turning over soo slow that it can't build enough heat to ignite the fuel. Mabye the starter is dragging?
alpha, I've done some machine work to my turbo's casings when i rebuilt it. It improved air flow on the test bench. As far as the tire pressure. I've always ran them at the max because i haul heavy loads with it. As far as the ride goes it rides like crap. But the spring seats helped alot.
The number one job of a turbo is fuel savings. The HP increase is a side effect. If a turbo isn't in your future make sure the toe in on the front axle is set. This will bring drag down alot! I have found most of our duece fire trucks had the toe in set way off. Also make sure yor running max...
Are the two rear axles connected? Like a 2 1/2 ton or 5ton boogie style set up? If so i would be conserned about the u-joints operating at thier max angles for long periods of time With the rear lifted.
Gene. Probally the best insurance is to ground the truck to earth. Get yourself a grounding rod at lowes or home depot and sink it to the ground at the trucks parking spot. make yourself a quick disconnect and wire it to the frame and plug it in. Hopefully the pulse will go to ground and not...
I have the battey #'s at home i'll get it for you. It's a 24V gel sealed batt. It runs $300 new. They used them in airplanes also. I was able to find them at a airplane parts house. But it was too expensive for me. I just use two lawnmower batteries to get 24v.
Mine a 1986 model has the 1028 tags. It came with the miller welder/8k genset and aircompressor still in it. Not to mention about #5000 of tools!!! It also has the NP205 transfercase. But no PTO mounted on it. I got a 1028 bed from M1075 and will be installing it soon.
I have to use pullers alot at work. We put never seze on the pullers threads and the tip where the screw touches the shaft. This greatly reduces the force needed to pull. And it saves the pullers threads.
I 've got a set of selectro's I got them from boyce equipment. They are plenty tough. I have pounded them pretty hard. They haven't broke or malfuctioned execpt for leaking. They seem to hold water in the hub pretty well!!! It they even see water in a ditch while driving down the road they will...
There is a starter relay under the dash right by where the civi radio would mount. Its a rectangle relay with 4 wires comming out. Mine quit a coulpe of months ago. There is a thread on this with pics. I ordered a new one from GM and paid about $40. But afterwards i realized it's the same relay...
I would be conserned the boogie bearings are bad. The pivot where the leaf springs mount to the cross bar. I have seen some trucks with timkin roller bearings and others with brass bushings. Pull the covers off and check them. I believe the Lube Order wants them greased quite often. This has...
Karp, You will need to run it some what hard for at least 10 miles. I know this sounds crazy but,it will work. It has a laybrinth seal in the turbine side. After heat and pressure builds it will start to seal back off. After a few miles you will see less and less smoke.
This usally happens on...
