What is the most reliable Deuce?

Five tons are heavy. If you ever spent any time around one you quickly appreciate how well built they are. They also have power steering, which would be great for your application. They are air assisted hydraulic brakes. Personally, I have no problem with the multi fuel engine. The 250 was...

    cucv design FLAW

If you are lucky enough to have help for about 30 seconds, hold the push rod up in the block and have your partner bump the starter until the rod is at it highest point in the stroke. I just buy the backing plate or block off plate gasket when I buy the pump. I squirt both the rod and the hole...

    Whistler Turbo?

Not my truck, but my video. I listened to this thing make sweet music all day, then when he left under load, the whistle was not nearly as noticeable. Nice truck, wish I had it. That is my old red 93W250 in the background though... Glen

    Rifle Holder

That one is a Colt AR-15, guess part of it is plastic.... Wish I could say I had a couple of registered M-16s for it. Glen

    Transfer Case removal/replacing

I think he means the bolts and lock nuts, especially new lock nuts. They are really bad about working loose on their own after the first or second time being run on. Glen

Recovery still in Progress for M109A3

I am so thankful that my deuce got me home. I took my M1008 up to Rapid City and it puked on me on the way up. I drove it a few hundred miles that I should not have and we got the deuce running. We had a couple of minor issues coming home, but the deuce quickly took over the role as recovery...

    Rifle Holder

Mine was mounted before the truck got its last dose of CARC in 89, I cannot tell you if the Air Force does the rifle mounting different or if it is a unit thing. Here are some more photos. Glen

    Made it home!!!

Looking good, I am definitely glad mine ran home for me. Excellent partner in crime you have there. I am betting that puppy is a hoot to have around. 8)

    engine swap opinion

You are not even close to correct. The 350 was a converted gasoline engine. The 6.2 was designed to be a diesel.

I will grab some better photos, this is the GL interior shot. Glen

What is the most reliable Deuce?

I doubt you will have any trouble finding 5 ton parts, probably need fewer of them as well. I would try to find one with the naturally aspirated Cummins 250 in it. That is a very popular engine, was widely used and parts should be easy to find. I remember the build on that M36, it was fun to...

    Rifle Holder

Mine had two in it when I recovered it. One on top of the transmission hump and one on the floor. I can snap some photos if you would like. The uppers are staggered on the dash. Glen

What is the most reliable Deuce?

X2! M816 would be a great truck to own! Those trucks were not mine. The only five ton I ever drove much was an old gasser bridge truck, huge, fuel thirsty, crude, slow and can idle out a fair sized cottonwood tree. What a horse of a truck. It had a huge gasoline inline six and made less than...

What is the most reliable Deuce?

You probably want a five ton then. The deuce is a fine machine, but hydraulic cranes I would think, better suited to a five ton chassis. Glen Similar, only much stouter... One working in the mountains, big strong truck...

    Hello from Dallas

If you can, jump in with somebody that has one and go for a ride. If you were closer, we could make a run out into the county and you could drive around for a while. Some guys hate driving them, I think it is a blast. Glen

Why the Deuce Doesn't Have These I'll Never Know!

Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of..... I sense a fairy tale in the making with a lotta bull stirred in. It would have been cheaper to buy a Mog than what he was planning and a lot better for the application.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Changed the oil and filter on the M1009, changed the fuel filter, replaced the speedometer cable, replaced the glow plugs and one of the lead screw on battery posts referred to above. It kept coming loose and finally would not tighten. I apparently stripped the threads someplace along the line...

    Master cylinder cap

The small line is a vent line, it is routed to a Tee that is the differential vents on a cross member, then up on the firewall.

Apparently they put a similar critter on the side of the hood, it would go well with my coyote!

    Hood Ornament

I did a search and they were Brockway Truck hood ornaments. Now to find an old Brockway Truck that still has one... Well.. I found a photo that I could download...
