You have much more experience than I do with steam. Both Stanley cars that I drove came with owner's warnings not to go full "throttle" until the car was rolling. They both advised that the engine had enough power to break the wood spoke wheels..Whether it did or not is or was not for me to find...
Ever drive a Stanley Steamer? The power is instant, right off the bat. As the car accelerates, you actually keep backing off of the steam. The engine itself is small and sits under the back seat. The burner and boiler are what eats up the space. A new high tech boiler would do wonders for the...
I have a 36,000 mile M1008 that I have put about 12,000 miles on. It used to do the same thing and I tried all the pour in remedies. Rich posted that I was wasting my time and money and I should just put in a set of injectors and be done with it. Turns out he was right, I think he referred to...
Rock On! Matt, when I was 16 I got to drive a couple of gas deuces around for about 4 years. I spent a lot of time chasing one in hay fields. We used the deuce to pick up bales and escalate them to the hay trailer. Little did I know it would be a 36 year dry spell before I got to drive another...
What is NOOB about that? Every ditch full of snow should have a set of deuce tracks.... Not that I would do it for the heck of it or anything. Westy, you are a little too far out of my running circle now for it to be me. Glen
As transportation they are wonderful. As a pulling vehicle, they are weak. I personally like the CUCV line. Smooth and dependable..... they just have mechanical limitations. They cannot compete with the newer diesels, for their day though, they did a good job. Drive them, work them, enjoy them...
I got lucky and have a really strong pulling deuce, but I do not know if she will run 50, 48 is the highest I have seen. Most of the time on the highway it looks like this....
When we ran across SD pulling my M1008 home behind my deuce, we burned 30 gallons between Rapid City and Mitchel. It was 339 miles and 11.2 mpg. Karl Kostman did most of the driving, I think he just got bored and stole my deuce for something to do. 8)
That is okay, I got plenty of drive time...
Not to mention all of the noises associated with a deuce. Not everybody likes to cruise with ear plugs in. I have not driven a lot of deuces, but the ones I have been in squeak, rattle, leak, and the wind blows through. It would take a large and in charge air conditioner to stay ahead of all the...
If I read this post correctly, you are talking about running 6000 miles a month. I think by the end of the year the novelty would be gone and the deuce would not be nearly as attractive. I have been driving mine daily for about a month, it is a lot of work, but mine is stock. I did drive it 700...
