You'll need to have 12 VDC to get the alternator excited. This can be a seperate switch, or use a 24 VDC relay off your ignition switch and use the contact closure on that to excite the alternator. Wire #57 would be a good point to energize your relay from.
Another pesky item to check would be the front wheel drive swich at the bottom of the dashboard. I recently replaced an O ring in mine to stop an air leak.

Remove one end of the diode off the PCB and test for continuity in both directions. Open both directions, or closed both directions, no good. Current should only pass in one direction.
Ron, Is that all the box does? It keeps you from trying to start a already running engine?
