    My models are for show, not for go. They don't roll really well. Pine Derby cars are designed for speed or distance. Guessing weight helps with momentum.

    Osage is grown in US and is more yellow in color from pictures i saw online. Padauk is from Africa. Very hard wood. My scroll saw blade struggled to cut the 7/8" thick segment for the car. The thinner segments were not so bad.

    Actually it is PADAUK. It is orange wood. It is an exotic imported hardwood. $11 per board foot at my supplier. Amazing wood grain and color! I am really glad I chose to use it on the model. It really pops in combination with the white oak accents.

    I am making the truck at 150% of the designer's scale. The tires on the real truck are 15 feet tall. My tires on the model are 4-1/8" tall.
