What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Installed a 24 Volt, 3-8 psi fuel pump, bypassing the PT pump, to charge the fuel rail prior to starting and diagnose what my RPM issue is. To recap she's hard starting and I can't get her over 1000 RPM. Also addressed a bent nipple on the fuel shutoff valve that caused a misalignment of the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Installed one of Big Mike's engine block heaters. He advertises it as "ENGINE BLOCK HEATER FOR M809, M939, AND M939A1 MODELS w/NHC 250 CUMMINS - EBH250". The instructions say it's for Cummins (855 CID) engine series with side plate, which I assume covers our engines. The heating element on my...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Took Juanprado's advice and bent back the wings to the radiator petcock to take it out with a socket wrench. Found that the petcock on my spare fuel/water separator was the same size...saved a little cash.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Started a Rad fluid change and block heater installation. When I opened the petcock nothing came out. On closer examination a mud dauber had built a nest in the oriface but after cleaning it out all I could get was a black gooey liquid to drip from the petcock. After probing with dental picks to...

    M54A2 Brake Question

I posed your question to the Grok AI on X here's the response...it draws on previous posts from Steel Soldiers. Adding a dual circuit air over hydraulic brake system to an M809 series military 5-ton truck involves significant modifications to the existing brake system. Here's how you might...

    Wrong 24v to 12v Converter?

What's the amperage of your stereo system? If the total amps are more than 70 nothing will work. More amps in a converter are better, your equipment will draw what it needs.

    Stop Valve Replacement??

I have an M813, not sure how many models have this part or if this post would be better served in another forum, but has anyone found a cheaper civilian replacement for this valve? The lowest OEM valve I've found is $175. The 1/8 NPT stem on my valve is bent, doesn't line up well with the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

May have figured out my RPM issue. First a recap, after an oil change the shutoff solenoid started acting up then I couldn't get the truck over 1000 RPM...how any of this is related is anybody's guess...the diesel Gods are restless. First I tore apart the fuel system, replaced the filter and...
