Anybody needing an east bound haul on a lowboy between New Mexico and eastern Alabama, I have space available to haul your SS items on my M870A1 lowboy next week....:jumpin: (505) 787-9961

You are absolutely correct, the turbo, if properly installed and with the right amount of fuel, will run lower EGTs and won't hurt the NTC 250 at all. It will actually give you better fuel milage and a bit more power ....I was talking, if you turn up the fuel on it, to try to get more then 50...
One of the problems you run in to with turbo charging a NTC 250, is the fact that this engine does not have any piston cooling oil squirters, that keep the pistons from melting in the later Big Cam engines, when working them hard. The turbo kit for the 250 was originally designed, more for...
Thanks James,
The M870A1 is definately my favored trailer and the addition of the rear ramps made it even more versatile. We also installed an automatic pintle hitch with the necessary air gladhands and a 2"receiver for hitching up the lightweight "stuff".
I still got to make a lid for the...
Don't worry Eldgen....It's the same one, the morning after I got it home and before I put the 1600R20s on it.....I wish I would have bought more then one....I could have sold mine 20 times over already!....Lol
Thanks again for the heads up....I will owe you forever....

Well, even thought this thread has gotten a "little off topic" lol, it is certainly all good and usefull information!
But since I would like to try to keep this Tech & Tips thread relevant to the M915 series trucks, I AM going to start a new, seperate thread with the M915-M920 Tech and Tips...
Just for the record....I did find my ISX 600 Cummins on ebay for $14k, with only 4600 original miles on it!!
It made the truck soooo "sweet" to drive and it certainly was worth every penny of it! :grd:

Nice work oldMan99!
I think you are dead on with your calculations and they closely correspond with what I have encountered in the field. All I would like to add to your findings is that
my numbers where based on the tach and speedometer readings in my truck, since I did not own a GPS at the...
I totally agree with you about all the dangers of rail transport.....The only benefit I could see in shipping by rail, is that if a person wanted the bottom half of their truck repainted in colorfull GRAFITTY!!!!!... The rail yards nowdays are full of aspiring spray can "artists".... lol

Yes, you can get all the common gear ratios for these axles.
The Detroit Lockers replace the spider gears, and install inside the stock carriers. So changing carriers for the different gear ratios does not require a new locker. Since the Detroit Lockers fit all the carriers, regardless of...
Ok...so I probably should mention here, for the purpose of comparing apples to apples, that the stock tires that come on the M916-M920 are 11.00 R 20s and messure 46" tall. This is a little confusing since the 395/85 R 20s and the 445/65 R 22.5s are also 46" tall.
I need to mention that in the...
The new carriers for the Rockwell SUHDs where about $1200.00 a piece, back in 2003 when I checked around. I could not find any used ones at the time....everybody wanted to sell me the whole hoghead assembly.
Also with 46" tall tires and the O.D. tranny, the 4.88s are really not that far off...
Ok Eldgen, you're being funny now!....That's not in any way what I was trying to say! lol..... first of all I would NEVER generalize on issues like that and second of all, if there where indeed a few "bad apples" out there.... YOU ARE CERTAINLY NOT IN THAT CATEGORY!!!!!!
I have been following...
This is good advice and I would like to add two more things to the above tips:
(1) this first one is obviously not an issue for you in Florida...lol, but the oil pump can be disconnected from the drive, for extreme cold weather operation. There is a 1/2" thick steel spacer, that's held on by...
Well, there is certaily no need to apologize or leave the thread..... I'm actually very excited that this "feeler thread" as someone called it has taken off so fast, and I am convinced that it will be way better this way, then I had envisioned it..... :jumpin:
There is no way that I can cover...
I have two of those myself, they work great on the FV432 after a little modification to the fingers. I had to get two of them though, to make it work good you need one for each side of the track....:D

Yes... I know this is kind of cheating, because I posted this in an other thread already, but it really needs to be here....so there...lol
Here is a quick scetch of the area on the front drums of the M916-M920 trucks, with dimmensions, that have to be addressed (ground or machined off)
in...
Yup Eldgen,...I figured that out the hard way too.....lol
The weird 12-24V electrical system had me puzzled more then once! Like for example when I tried to plug in my cell phone in to the cigarette lighter for the first time, and it started to make the most god aweful noises......I guess it...
