WD-40 is worthless for long term corrosion Protection.
I use ACF50.
We use it on the helicopters and it stops corrosion long term and is a great lube also
Spray a good penetrate oil on and in it and let it sit for a day or two.

It’s a very heavy trailer and built like a tank.
When I had my M925A2, it handled my M989A1 decently enough.
Just had to watch tight turns.
It didn’t have the tongue extension and they would barely make contact with each other in a tight turn.
I had a similar issue. ( I never manually rotated engine though).
Problem was the starter switch on top of the steering column.
One contact had gotten hot enough and melted the plastic, causing the intermittent issue.
When the plastic melted, the contact moved out of correct position.

If no one is close to check the heads, you can order a Magnaflux Kit.
It’s a NDT dye penetrate that will show any cracks.
It’s used in Aviation everyday and works extremely well.
