    G749 preservation

Summer, are we there yet? We had a visitor at the G749 farm today. The 1991, British 4 ton Leyland Daf, 5 speed - Cummins, Right Hand drive,.....with 2300 on the ODO which usually wouldn't mean much, but this thing is tight, spotless underneath. We've learned today that it likely hauled fuel at...

Canada - Prairies - (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba)

Dress warm. Looks like highs in the mid 50's next week and night time temps around freezing. The height of the mountains blocks that sun fast at night so it will be a wee bit cold. Keep me posted on schedule too. I might just slip over and have a coffee with you if there's a window next week...

    Hello from France

Welcome to Steel Soldiers. There are few tires like that BF mud terrain. I'll bet you've seen some nice back country in that truck. Great pics, keep them coming.

    Finally restoring the M37

Can we chat a bit about the 'general' process the M37 would go through before it got to it's first base, station, port...it's first home. Looking at the pictures, it reminds me of the older boy's stories who were around when the Early Deuces were factory fresh and the excitement they had when...

This is an M20, isnt it?

M20 rider policy The M20 team is getting closer to dropping the heartbeat into its home so a quick couple of update photos. It should be ready for a test stand run early next month and we're really hoping to be part of it to grab a video. Helped in the placement of some tiny conduit to run a...

    G749 Exhaust

Here is the Schematic out of the ORD 9 SNL G-749 manual. It shows a short pipe. This is the same book that shows short stacks on the trucks. It could have been an oversight until the first troops rode in the back. Most of the shop vans had tall stacks but it does make sense that they could...

    The unofficial g749 picture thread

Here's a throw back to the past. I thought I read the entire internet and looked at every M135 photo, but maybe the boys over at http://olive-drab.com/ were holding out on us....until now! This link http://militarymashup.com/truck-m135-m211.htm has a few dozen G749 photos that tell a bigger...

    M211 302 crank bolt size

Re-engine Deuce 12 years ago this 502 M211 showed up here on Steel Soldiers. All the trouble of a conversion would be so worthwhile when you imagine jumping in the truck and hearing the thump of a lumpy V-8 under the hood. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?2932-California-Hot-Rod-M211...

M220 continuing to run after shut down

M220 Hard Top You're holding out on us! That story should be in a book for all the wives to read.....Titled, "How I enjoyed living in an army truck with my husband for 4 months". Still, that had to be tough, it's a tight space for two. Awards should be given out for girls like yours. I'm...

M220 continuing to run after shut down

M220 Shopvan That's real nice and should be featured in our http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?58040-The-unofficial-g749-picture-thread When the points start to get worn out and the plugs start getting fouled I noticed my M135 wanting to stall at the lower RPM. Real glad the...

    G749 Exhaust

I'm exhausted from unloading a bunch of those clamps into the sea-can. Let's dig up the exhaust schematic and do an inventory of the parts you need. I'll PM you on the mufflers.

M220 continuing to run after shut down

I bet it's that bypass water line running along the carb side. They're NOT supposed to be in the way but it's tight in there. It's a bit of a roll and a twist to get it out usually. I've played with the timing through a wide range on the distributor so if a lower RPM doesn't work, play with...

G749 Trucks hard to come by

Well then,,,, I may hit Medicine Hat in the next few weeks but there's also an opportunity for me to be in Lethbridge July 1. I could throw the brake parts in the box and thin out the stock a little. Still trying to talk you kids into stamping a passport and coming North......but a meeting in...

Engine Removal One of these is always handy http://www.affjaxx.com/engine-tilter-2200-p-22.html It's the same thing as the sling, but it's adjustable. Using the Bobcat to pull it out is always a bonus too. We didn't have the sling but the boys came up with something, I'll check the pics. The...

G749 Trucks hard to come by

G749 Transmissions Are we still itchin' with the fishin' ambition for a transmission mission? I think I'd bring down the one with the bellhousing so it's heavier and more difficult to slide into your truck. We know that they're take-outs, won't know the condition until you take it apart.

    M135 build thread

New design early deuce hard top It's such a logical, simple design, we would have been better off using something like that on all the hardtops we had. The boys eventually built racks over some of the tops but the roof usually saw a lot of damage. Lookin' good, can't wait to see that Detroit...

    G749 preservation

Thank you Bill, Lest We Never Forget. When the shop van got pulled off the truck the picker's gauge said 4000lbs so it's heavy. Mine is real nice to sleep in and I give it up to visitors when they come visit. ;-) I think we had about 12 MVPA units pull in for that show thanks to you guys...

All you expedition camper DIY people... I have a question

I doubt that wood is desirable for something that is going to get beat, off-road, but if a guy doesn't have mad metal skills, it's an option. My Dad caught me with a girl in the basement when I was 16 and he said, "Don't ever let me catch you down here with a girl again!" So I asked if I could...
