This thread will be difficult to find in the future as well. Seriously hope it isn't taken the wrong way, but they're brakes, not breaks (unless they're broken). The search engine won't work for the next person looking for brake or brakes or braking. No worries, the keywords are in the thread...
Hold the horn down and jiggle the blackout switch in a semi-violent manner- sweeping through all its positions. If the horn blows, even momentarily, replace the switch. If not there are some nice diagrams in this thread. Start yanking out fuses and test them with a meter- see pg 4-31 of the -20
I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago. I noticed the brakes felt weak and the pedal was closer to the floor than I remembered- popped the cover and…hey, where did all the brake fluid go? I’m watching it right now.
I had been parked on a hill, steeply nose-down so I wonder if it got...
Yeesh. So I replaced the wire from the 12v bus to the top of the relay, replaced the relay, and replaced the temp sensor. Now the WAIT light doesn't illuminate at all. I still have 12v at the top post of the GP relay, and 12v to the top small terminal when the switch is in start, but no WAIT...
Well it doesn't want to start at all today, and I'm almost out of parts to throw at it. The wire to the top of the solenoid isn't even getting warm, but I'll upgrade it anyway. I guess I'll start looking for the relay part number and try that.
The good thing is that I have so much annual and...
OK, that makes sense. I followed the plan up on the stickies and just reused the wire and fusible link from the 24v system. I have some 6ga around here somewhere, I'll try a short run of that from the 12v bus to the relay and see if that helps. If it gets better but not better enough, I'll...
I found a decent temp-fix for the wonky speedometer and disappearing dash lights problems. It's an app I bought because I thought it looked cool but never used. With the phone mounted on the dash it works great and now I can see my speed, important when going through the 25MPH zone in town...
Right, I am considering going back to 24v and reinstalling the resistor pack. The GPs seem to heat up faster.
The GPs are new as the old ones failed in cascade style. They check bad with the ohm meter. I also ran the meter over all the wires in the card holder as specified in the -20 and...
I installed the new GP card I got from Antennaclimber (left) after the stocker (right) failed.
I notice the wait light stays on a lot longer with 12v than it did when the system was 24v. It still took two tries before it fired up too.
So my question is, are the more modern Bosch glow plugs...
I found a few CUCV pictures while looking for pictures of my service vehicle, the C-141B Starlifter.
Man this website is choking my work computer...bad. Trying again....
The glow plug system is still causing grief. I needed to move the truck out from in front of the garage to get the Liberty out and it fired up on the GP's second cycle- no problem. I left it in the neighbor's driveway (currently vacant) for about 15 minutes and tried to restart it but it...
After the new glow plugs it was starting great...for TWO days. Suddenly it wouldn't start at all. Lots of unburned diesel blowing out the pipes too. Today I got out the meter and opened the troubleshooting guide....again. I pulled the GP card out and put the meter on the wires- everything...
I parked on a steep hill nose-up all day, and the next day I parked in the same spot but severely nose-down, again all day. I don't know if that had anything to do with it but the day after that my brakes went spongy. Checked the reservoir and the forward chamber was almost empty, and I'm...
The sun finally came out so it was glow plug time. The truck didn't feel like starting and I probably misted a quarter tank of diesel out the tailpipes before it kicked off. I pulled it up in front of the garage and got the step-stool. I had picked up eight Bosch 80034 glow plugs for $65 from...
