Intresting. I checked the J6 and it looked okay, but didn't think about if the connector pins were loose. Maybe my hitting the unit made it make better contact? Good tip and it's a fairly easy check.

It's working for now, so I am going to focus on the other issues with the unit. I have a spare that I need to test as well.

At risk of seeming like a jerk... you should be checking up on the generator every few hours or so anyways, unless you're sleeping. If it runs an extra hour after grid power is restored, not a big deal. It just exercises the generator a bit. I hook mine up and let it run for 10-12 hours...

In my case, there never was an open. Everything tested as it should have. It makes no sense really. I don't know what else could interfear with it's operation as I'm not sure exactly how it does, what it does. Maybe chunks of rust stuck to the windings?

Yes, I planned to put the well nut and stuff on then fill it while it is outside of the generator to be sure it is good before installing it.

Thanks for the tips! i do have a set that is scrap & I know all those plastic stand off's are on there. Didn't think to pull them. Will do it after work today and put them in the organizer of small parts for these machines. Side note: Why on earth did they make these solder on?!
