    Question about torsion bars

Thanks for the replies and information. Thought it was kind of odd that the torsion bars in my M548 were not wrapped with anything where as the ones in my old M59APC were. Looked like electrical tape to me at the time...

    Question about torsion bars

Are the torsion bars in an M548 (or M113 for that matter) identical (interchangable) from first to last? Or does each have a specific position that it has to go (back) into? Matt

    fiberglass x doors hmmwv

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?81797-Blasting-Aluminum/page3 Post #21 claims that walnut shells can be used on fiberglass. Post #38 was also interesting. While the subject of the above thread was inquiring about blasting alumimnum, there was some mention about using different...

    Insurance questions for track owners

Hey everyone! Have a couple of questions for the tack owners on here. I'm a new M548 owner and was wondering if any "track" owners have insurance on their vehicles? Who is the policy with and are there any stipulations pertaining to the vehicle's use? They don't come with titles so can't...

    Dragoon - New Paint

Was there a reason why you went with a solid flat black paint scheme instead of something else? Just curious. Your Dragoon looks nice, BTW [thumbzup]. Not sure if anyone remembers about 10 years ago (?) there was a reality show that followed the Detroit(?) PD's SWAT team on...

WWI Ford US 3 Ton Tank M1918

Yes that's the one that was restored & on display at the ordnance museum. You may want to call them & see where it was sent to when they broke up that part of the collection (maybe it's still up there?). They may have sent it to Ft.Benning(?) with the rest of the armor. That looks like it will...

WWI Ford US 3 Ton Tank M1918

Was the "3 ton" the one where the gunner/commander sat next to the driver? APG's museum had a restored one of those on display (years ago,pre-9/11). Not sure what happened to it but you might try contacting them to see where it wound up. If it's still on display, you may be able to take pics &...

    Members in Northern Virginia?

According to Hoop, there are a few 800 series owners in (or around?) Lynchburg. That's about 40 miles away from you. Another Ahab: Phenix,Va is southwest of Richmond...

Beam sling for lifting power packs

Thanks for the replies guys! Yeah in the -20 under tools list for power pack removal it justs lists it as "Beam sling". Nothern Tools carries them (thanks google). They are expensive but you get what you pay for. Militaro If I'm not mistaken, my M548A1 and your M113A2 share the...

Beam sling for lifting power packs

Thought that maybe I should post this over in "Conversations' as it might get more looks but thought that this forum would be more proper considering...... I'm in the process of removing the powerpack assembly from my M548A1. While I have a (Civilian) wrecker that can handle...

M10 tank out of control over a bank

Just an observation about the M10 & not the accident. While the mechanicals described seemed Rube Goldberg inspired, the outward appearance looked good (passed the 10' rule). I forgot (remembered after reading it here) that the M10/M10A1 only used the one piece differential housing. Seeing the...

M10 tank out of control over a bank

There was a strange mechanical grinding noise like the driver missed a gear while shifting. That happened just before the M10 went over the bank. Did the vehicle flip? I saw the guy on the back deck of the vehicle rolling around. Hope he wasn't hurt too badly...

Question about M548 Unit maintenenace manual

Guys Does anyone know if the TM 9-2350-247-20-1 unit maintenance manual for the M548A1 cargo carrier has a section on pulling the powerpack? I have this manual on the way(ordered). I'd like to pull my M548A1's power pack but instead of just "unhooking everything"...

    Haltrack and MRAP

Karl I'm getting ready to start a new job soon. Depending on what my schedule looks like, I'll be there. It'll be nice to see you & some of the others. Just picked up an M548A1 and I've been busy cleaning the interior. Anyone recommend a good degreaser...

    Haltrack and MRAP

That's a nice display and it's always interesting to compare the old with the new. That's one good look'n M2 you've got there. half tracks are nice but they ride like a brick on a scateboard and have no overhead (air burst) protection. "The rolling foxhole attracts...

M548A1 windshield & cab top removal

No, not yet. I'm going to be taking some "official" portraits tomorrow of the vehicle. Matt

M548A1 windshield & cab top removal

Figured I'd bring this thread to a close....In case anyone is wondering, the windshield on an M548A1 does not fold. It's either "on" or it is "off" the vehicle. If you want to remove the windshield, you'll need a 9/16" socket, ratchet & wrench to do it*. there are 12 bolts holding it down...

Weight of a Detroit Diesel 6V53T

I did the conversion of the metric weight given in that link to lbs and something must be off. I really don't think that powerpack as a whole weighs in at 8T?! Matt

Did the 5t wreckers struggle with the weight? Matt
