What is preventing your CUCV from running? My opinion would be to create a separate, smaller list that has only the things that absolutely must be done to get your truck running to where you can tool around the yard in it.
Take that smaller list which should be much more manageable...

Not necessarily early vs late; the two (squared off edge and rounded edge) are two entirely different tire patterns.
The "squared off edge" commonly seen on older vehicles (the M37 is the first to come to mind) is the NDT pattern.
The "rounded off edge" on our Deuces and such is the NDCC...
Most people use F350s at the least, from what I've seen. I know that I would at least want a dually with the higher capacity rear suspension to be pulling a 13-14k load with a gooseneck, although my experience is limited and I am definitely not an expert.
Be prepared for opinions; we have a few, and some of us enjoy sharing ours more than others!

You might also poke around on some of the Dodge power wagon forums that are around. They might be more familiar with a wider variety of Dodge truck powerplants from that time period.
