I agree with Kad when saying it is not worth it. It is a weak trans. If you want to go through the trouble of getting OD, the 4l80 or e is a bunch better option being that you would have to move a bunch of stuff around for both anyway and getting the actual trans is not the most expensive part...
If you are not commuting in it, I don't see it being cost effective to switch to the multi. If you were to do the swap, maybe it would do betting with a different more modern diesel that would out preform the multi and still get better mileage. Sometimes it is hard to find waste oil in a hurry...
It is really hard to suggest to anyone to push a deuce to go much fast then 56. If I was to do any of these mods it would be more for getting a reasonable distance from redline when at 50 rather than to go much faster. I put larger wheels (11x 20s) on mine and it makes me much more comfy knowing...
From the layers I found It was originally green, then tan then green again. The last owner before me tried their hand at camo on it...
The most prominent one is the V on the roof of the truck on the canopy. You can't see them unless you look at it from an angle and see where it was painted over.
I found the NATO V under a couple layers of paint on my 1009. What are the chances this was a Desert Storm truck?
The thought of it makes me want to go tan with the paint job.
I think there is only a 4 or 5 inch difference in total height too so it would only drop the truck about 2 inches. I could be wrong.'
-edit- opps I thought you were talking about 11x20s.
Take a VERY close look at the frame directly next to the steering gear box and look for cracks around the bolt holes. Check each one with a flashlight.
I put G286s on my deuce in a singles config in the back. I really haven't noticed much of a change in milage but it drives a heck of a lot better (like night and day better) and I can cruise at 55 (GPS) with the speedo reading 47.
I would do it again in a second.
Air over hydraulic if fine because if the air dies you still have break pressure. On a full air system you loose control of the breaks.
And Gun is right, I am not sure a dern thing is dot approved on these trucks for 2012.
-edit- haha I got sniped
When my brigade went to NTC I am sure it looked something like that. 5 or 6 battalions and my battalion alone had 58 tanks and a freaking pile of fueler Hemmts and other rear vehicles.
Prob just someone heading to training. How far is that from 29 stumps?
