I have not gotten the cover off yet. How did you get this bolt out without taking the air compressor off? Mine has a nut on the back that I can't seem to get to with a wrench to hold it from turning.
I am going to replace it when I go to put it back together. I tore the truck apart to replace the timing seal and gasket because of a leak and found this.
That could be the case. I have seen people do worse. I looked the damper over and could not find any marks that would suggest it was beat on or used as a lever. Who knows?
I do know that as soon as I pick up the new one on Thursday this will be a problem of the past!
Well don't feel like you are alone! I missed this thread, but here is mine.

Also how did you get the bolt out of the timing cover that is just under the air compressor? Mine had a nut on the back and it looks to me like I need...
Well I thought I was going to finish it. Turns out this may be a two man job. I need someone under the truck to hold the bolt on the timing cover. Oh well.
Ok so I had an oil leak on the front of the motor and ordered a new timing seal and gasket to fix the problem. Well today I pulled the front of the truck apart to replace the part an found this.
I noticed that the dampener was loose when I went to take the belts off. The bolt came out by hand...
Well I made a new copper air line that runs from the brake air pack to the air tank. What a PITA that was!
Next thing for this week will be tear the front of the engine apart and replace the water pump gasket, timing seal and gasket, and the oil pan gasket. Oh and change all three belts and...
Man it is looking great with the new paint job!! I am going to paint mine as soon as I can figure out what color/scheme I want it.
Oh I own MO MV mans truck by the way.
I hear that these can cause fuel to get into the crankcase. I have searched all day and have heard it mentioned many times. My question is, how does it cause fuel to get in there. I can't find that explained anywhere. I spent an hour looking for the answer.
The reason I ask is because I think mine I am afraid mine may be leaking into the crankcase. I just want to cap the system off as I really do not need it down here.
How does it get fuel into the crankcase anyhow?
