I had considered fabbing one up, but the way this grill is designed, I just don't think a fabbed up one would look right, atleast not as good as a stock one. I will eventually make a grill gaurd.
You are correct, you can't split shift with the auto, but you can use the rear and shift into high once moving at higher speeds. I find with a auto, you dont lose engine RPM's as you do with a stick, and the gear spread isn't as noticable, so split shifting really isn't necessary.
I have a 2 sp...
I was able to get the truck primed yesterday and today, it took me longer than I thought, so the color will be put on next weekend.
But atleast it's all one color now.
That's very tempting! But I really want to keep the 2 sp rear, I think that will make my drivability while towing much better. I dought the 4x4 versions came with the 2 sp rear.
These trucks seem to be scarce around here. If anyone knows where I can get a grill, let me know. I am having a hard...
just one more pic I found. The original 350 chevy that was in the truck, used the front mounting points on the engine block, to mount the engine to the frame. I used this same configuration on the 6.2, so I could use a Hummvee oil pan, this gave me a few more quarts oil capacity. Plus I can drop...
A few more pics I found.
My biggest worry with the 6.2, was the lower mains strength, so I made a lower main girdle, I figured the strength was needed in a truck this size.
I hope to get primer sprayed on the truck tomorrow, then color Sunday. I will post a few pics once done.
A pic of the 6.2 installed with the peninsular turbo (I found on craigs list), the fit was so tight, I had to run the exhaust out of the side of the fender, I had to modify the motor mounts a few times just to get the turbo and exhaust manifolds to fit between the frame rails correctly. I had no...
I had considered doing that, but I already did put a M211 front axle under a 64 CO International, with a 2 speed rear. I could only use 4x4 in high, if it was in 2wd I could use low for pulling. Actually it worked very well, but I am always having problems with the brakes in the old front axle...
As requested, I will put a build thread up of my 2 ton build (I think that would be the designation) .
I aquired a 3/4 ton crew cab pickup from GL, it was used as a air force line truck as far as I can tell from the markings. It has 12 volt wiring, J code 6.2 which runs great, SRW. The truck had...
I ended up getting a crew cab SRW from GL, that was a line truck for the air force. It had a lot of hilo damage, so I took a different route to making a full flegged dually. When I got my M818, it had 11 brand new T831's, so I had to find a use for them, I also had a old farm truck Chevy C60, I...
He had all the tools required for a recovery. The problem was, when the tire goes flat, you are that much closer to the ground, and most bottle jacks don't have enough travel to get the flat tire off the ground. I think anyone of us would of been in the same situation with out learning from...
What are you basing your "max" speed on? Just because you run your engine at 2500 RPM's max, doesn't mean that is the recommended speed of the truck. You didn't mention anything about engine RPM.
I went to larger tires to lower my cruising RPM, not gain a few MPH's. I also gained some economy...
Javelin missile carrier tubes. They fit the roof rack perfectly, and make great storage for tarps and camo netting. They are just strapped on.
To make a long story short, it started out as a Dune Buggy I bought for $300, which originally came with a VW motor. I ended up going through a divorce, and had no money to rebuild the VW stuff. So I used a bunch of left over parts I had from previous projects, it is now a Turbocharged propane...
