I would believe that it's just a matter of the right ballast resistor. The old ballasts for 12v systems are about 1.5 ohms. 3 of those in series would work, a bit ugly perhaps. Or a 300 watt wire wound resistor between 4 and 5 ohms would also do the trick. They can be had from Mouser or...
I had very little trouble registering mine. The DMV likes you to have a weight ticket from a truck scale but they were satisfied with a photo of the data plate. They also like to have a pencil rubbing of the VIN/serial number. On my M36A2 it was hand engraved and they wanted the rubbing to...
Concur. I had to sand that nut down with emery cloth to get the button working, I also coated it with dielectric grease to try to slow down the return of the rust.
24087 is the victim of several changes in FSC595 over the decades. David Doyle posted the details of the story back in 2007.

24084 is the match to the old 24087.
Rusty,
I dont't want to derail this thread but, I would like to hear (read) your thoughts on the Hybrid units sometime. I believe I work where the hybrid drive systems and battery modules are made that you're speaking of. I personally don't work in the power and drive shop though.
30 amp 3AB ceramic fast blow, That's going to be from an electrical or electronics supplier. Ceramic fuses are unusual in the automotive world. Available from Mouser or DigiKey.
Now, I believe a 30 amp 3AG glass fuse would work just fine in this application. These are readily available and...
If you trust the reading, it's possible that the thermostat is stuck. You also need to remember that these things have cooling systems suitable for high altitude and high temp climates. It will need a load to truly get hot, particularly in cool weather.
For the future, temp guns are under...
The pin tool(s) required depend upon the series/pin sizes involved. They are generally under M81969, anywhere from $0.50 - $10.00
Most cannon plugs can be ordered from Mouser. They can be found from the MIL # and usually can be inferred by starting with the NSN.
I generally try to coat the ground connections with NO-OX-ID. I also use a bit of it in the all the connectors. It's an anti-oxidant conductive grease. The antenna and broadcast guys swear by it. It's also a favorite in marine applications.
Outside of the diesel realm and more in line with the SBC route, an LQ4 is a great modern motor. It's an iron block truck version of a gen III ls2 motor. Being the "less" desirable iron block they're available pretty cheap. 300-325 HP stock and a perfect match to a 4l80E.
A 4-53 or a 4-53T Detroit will fit reasonably well, be similar in performance to the 6.2, and they make a wonderful racket. They are very hard to kill and very simple to wrench on. They'll be around at the end of time with cockroaches, twinkies, and Cher. A 6v-53 would fit and make more...
