Thank you David.. Especially a lathe is very handy...
Got side tracked a bit with other work.. Did not start on the rotted out door... Did not get the ether in to attempt and fix the temp gauge..and no other old broken gauges to tinker with.. Also waiting on the antique title and license plate...
David, This is a Southbend. My tinker lathe. Somehow it is the right size and convenience. Just feels confortable. we used to build non destructive ultrasonic and eddy current test machines for aircraft turbine engine parts.. More specific the rotating hardware. www.zw-art.com
We had a small...
Nice..even in German ... Have not even checked mine yet.
Yeah age...sore everyday.. Not enough desktime to relax..getting 60 in August, God willing.. To many projects, covid helps me staying more focussed. Still afraid that I have more projects then time..
Good enough I finished my horn...
Went over your pics again. Amazing amount of work. Did you have to replace anything inside the transmission? Did you take the ferret apart like that also. Museum work.

Today no serious work on the mogs..designed a stand to support the loader of the flu419..
Ordered diethyl ether to refill the temp gauge.
Jacked up the front tires to see which one has a flat spot. Could not find it.
My old for parts mb240d had a nice Mercedes emblem on the steering wheel and...
Today was a busy day removing a dana 60 front axle from my e350 4x4 ambulance before the rest go to the scrapyard..
In that process I removed the doghouse from the e350 (7.3 idi diesel) and reused the heat / noise insulation for the doghouse covers in the 404. Curious if it makes an...
Hi Guy, Hope you are having a good time with some beer.
Getting back on the temperature gauge..
I was a little frustrated that the Unimog does not use a thermo well. That is if you take the temp sensor out then coolant comes out as well.. One argument could be that the sensor responds...
hi Guy,
I have bk190 motor and bk177 chassis both green, then a 1979 beige instruction manual and then the blue binder with the workshop manual, are there any more?
Johan
I survived the antifreeze... Maybe it was ethylene glycol..the non toxic version for ice cream.. But no kidding.. I do taste it. Easiest way to tell what it is. Just lick of your finger and spit it back out. Almost 60 and still alive..
OK the gauge. It was not working..
I thought maybe the...
Yes , I have seen that, actually that is where I got the part numbers from the tachometer and amp meter... They do not mention voltmeter but ????
My vin # 404 115 040608. 1966.
My main thing would be pictures of factory install.. And if that voltmeter is actually existing for the 404.
Thank...
Well far is a relative word..every car I drive..and everything is old and has more then 200000 miles on it brakes down. Used to it...sometime expect it even and else murphy is always there to help me out... I never go anywhere without tools and and some amount of spare parts..
Just let the...
Hi Guy,
that would be great,
I am a still to green to ask any meaningful questions but I did read up on these tach meters and amp meters.
Supposingly available as .. SA35540 ( revcounter / tachometer) and SA35181 ( Amp meter)
I would like to see an image and location where and how they placed in...
Great, thank you. The speedo should become a tacho. The smaller one a voltmeter.. Scale wise the temp gauge would be nicest for that.
I will document this modification here and in case successfully others can use it.
Here a pic of the air pressure gauge I have. To rare and nice to sacrifice...
Thank you. No replacement.. Looking for broken ones. I need the housing to build a tachometer and a voltmeter inside the housing. Looking for gauges with intact glass and half decent bezel.
I have a good looking dual air pressure gauge that has no use to me but I feel bad to disect a good...
A ferret is a little more exotic then a 404.
Really would like a more or less original looking tacho and voltmeter. So I figured to start out with the housing of the odometer and build a new instrument inside.
See my request for broken gauges.
Started eye balling the rust on the driver door...
