Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: M125 Wrecker has a new home!!!
I'm working at it - single Dad, three pre-teen sons all very active in Cub and Boy Scouts, currently constructing a 32' x 64' x 14' garage to house my vehicles and give me a place to work - there just ain't enough hours in the day to get...
Re: RE: M816 Wrecker dumb question
Great idea. Gotta add something like that to my crane seat. We get WAY too much snow out here to tiptoe along the edge of the bed. Course, I'd have to be crazy to drive my beast in the snow! But, I must have been crazy to buy it in the first place...
Here is a M816 Wrecker dumb question. How is the crane operator supposed to safely get into the crane compartment? The side of the compartment comes right out to the edge of the wrecker body, so how you safely get in there?
On my M125 wrecker with the M816 body, the previous owner added a 6"...
Re: RE: Re: RE: M125 Wrecker has a new home!!!
Thanks for the compliment! I am going with a historical plate ($35 for 5 years) and historical insurance ($300/yr including collision and comprehensive coverage).
If I went commercial, I would have to go with an "elected gross vehicle weight"...
RE: Re: RE: M125 Wrecker has a new home!!!
I like the three color camo paint job, it is more "serious official military" looking to me and will match my puny little Deuce's paint job. Besides, there was never a M125 series based wrecker anyhow, so I guess since I have a "quasi-official" truck...
RE: Help - M125 Wrecker Boom Winch Level Wind not on the lev
Just the snatch block, the two pulley type which gives you four runs of cable, which I think rates the boom winch at 20,000 lbs capacity; vs the single pulley snatch block which only gives you two runs of cable and 10,000 lbs...
I have a problem with the boom winch on my M125/M816 wrecker not winding level. When starting with a bare drum the cable will skip several grooves at a time between wraps until it gets to near the center of the drum, then it winds correctly. I can solve the problem with a slight sideway push on...
Well, since it is finally safely at home with me, here are a couple pictures of the former Highpoint wrecker, a 1957 Mack 10 ton M125 refitted with a M816 body, along with my now puny appearing Deuce! Not great "wrecker in action" shots, but a good size comparison.
Although it doesn't show up...
RE: Re: RE: M125 Wrecker has a new home!!!
I took "Da Beast" for a short quasi-legal road trip today. I was at the SOS office today (DMV to most of you) taking care of some other business, I just happened to have a friendly and talkative clerk working with me and I mentioned I had a new MV to...
14:00-24 tires would probably work fine for me as with the M816 wrecker body on my truck I don't need the load capacity of the duals anyhow, I'm mainly trying to solve my overwidth problem. My thought on the 16:00-24s was to improve on my current 42 mph top speed.
I'd also be extremely happy...
Re: RE: 14:00-24 or 16:00-24 tires?
No prob Armyman. I have a few pics at

I had hoped to get some more in there by now but just too many tasks to do all at once - Like revising the specs on the garage I am building...
Re: RE: M125 Wrecker has a new home!!!
Certainly - M816 3 color camo pattern. Should be a hit at the local MV shows, although I might need some "sponsor" money to pay for the gas. The closest show to me is the GLMVPA show at General Jim's in Clare MI. 100 mile round trip at 2 mpg equals 50...
"DA Beast", my new M125 wrecker, came fully equipped with a set of 10 fairly well dry rotted 14:00-24 tires which are going to need replacement sooner or later. I've looked at the Michelin XL, XML and XZL and Goodyear G177 data sheets but the largest rims they list are 20" and some 21" sizes...
Well the famous (or infamous) Highpoint M125 wrecker finally has a new home. It was delivered to my house here in NW Michigan about 2:00pm today (3/4/2008) after about 16 hours on the road from Union City NJ. For those of you who didn't catch the earlier threads, it started out in life as a 1957...
Re: RE: brackets for towing
Probably not a great idea. The towbar feet are a pretty substantial piece of metal, and something you would be very unhappy to have break while whizzing along at 30-40 mph. There is a tremendous amount of stress at the end of the towbar, and one recent thread had a...
Agreed
Probably not too much. The cooling effect of the vaporizing propane will reduce the volume and temperature of the incoming air flow (but not the mass air flow). I'd guess zero net effect. Any significant boost pressure will come from increased fuel (diesel) delivery by cranking up the...
