My deuce had starting issues for a while. It would start fine for a week, then the next week, just clicking. It got to the point where it wasn't starting more than it was. So after my multimeter and I did some checking I found that power was getting to the solenoid on top of the starter...
So Gimp and I swapped in another IP. Got everything timed correctly and found the truck would only start with a shot of ether. After it starts it runs fine, has good power but the rpm's at idle fluctuate between 500-1000. I'm going to drain my fuel tank, add straight diesel with some seafoam and...
The deuce started today with a little ether, warmed up nicely and then idled ok. Quite a bit of smoke from the exhaust with an odd exhaust note. It seems to run rough and smoke a lot every other engine revolution. Gimp and I will be checking the IP timing tomorrow.

Yes, the tab has been in place during all HH swaps. Gimp and I installed another IP today and the truck fired up with a whiff of ether. Doesn't want to idle and there is air in the return line. We'll be working on it tomorrow.
The same people that don't understand the deuce or what it can be used for have no problem paying $25-$35K for a new car that isn't worth ****e after 5 years!!!
I use mine mainly to pick up, tow and store GL purchases. I too like so many members are amazed at what you get for very little $$$.
test
Tom,
I checked the rebuilt HH just like you instructed, it tested as a good unit. Gimp and I are installing another IP on the deuce tomorrow.
Buff
I'd just like to find someone that can test an IP to see if it's within specs. Sure would be nice to know you're putting a good pump on your truck instead of crap like the one you're taking off.
I remember reading a thread where someone posted up that they rebuild deuce IP's. Can't find it for the life of me, anyone know which member offers this service?
Are there any decent sized trees nearby? You can try the trick where you anchor to a tree with a rope and run the other end between one set of rear duals. Then you put it in reverse and it winds itself around and pulls you out. Just a thought.
