    West coast mirror mounting

I'd put a couple of large washers, maybe fender washers backed up with standard sized washers, on the inside of the cowl underneath the nuts holding the cowl bracket in place. There seems to be a lot of vibration there; my cowl is cracked around the bracket.

    Slipping out of high

Gerhard - In SOME places you can get good takes out on the cheap. For a lot of us, we can buy a cheap take out and then spend more on shipping to get it here than we paid for the case. Is it practical to swap out the shift collar (and maybe synchros) for a fix?

    Multifuel Engines

"UEO" is often referred to as "WMO", Waste Motor Oil. Check out the "Alternative Fuels" forum for lots more info. Unfortunately, no one to date has done a "scientific" study of mixtures of various alternative fuels, but there is plenty of empirical data of what members have used with (and...

Question about picking up a deuce...

Flea wrote "so perhaps I can hold them to that if something vital "goes missing."" Don't even think that will work. With GL it is "Buyer Beware"! There have been too many horror stories on this site to the contrary. As long as the VIN listed matches what you pick up (and sometimes even that...

    Is this even legal??????

Get proof of insurance, get a temporary plate/permit or whatever, put on our BDU's and drive home. The chances of getting pulled over in a MV are pretty slim IF you are driving legally and responsibly. If anyone will get pulled over it would be someone in Civvies driving a MV. Driven by someone...

Question about picking up a deuce...

RE: truck When I picked up my Deuce, getting ON the base was a hassle. The GL guy had to have my name and the names of everyone with me on a list at the entrance guard post. Then we had to show up with picture ID, proof of registration and insurance for our vehicles, sign in and get a window...

    Radiator Capacity

Just make sure your anti freeze is labeled for heavy duty diesel use! Don't buy the regular gasoline engined automotive stuff from Wally World. The additives are wrong for diesel use.

Max towing capacity of a M35?

The Deuce brakes are slightly better than barely adequate in performance. Remember, this truck was designed in 1949 and went into series production in 1950. I don't believe the brakes have seen much improvement since then except for possibly upgraded linings, so you are talking 1950's braking...

Max towing capacity of a M35?

Inadequate power and lack of speed. I'm assuming you had an 800 series 5 ton which is a much larger truck than the Deuce. You might want to think about a M54 5 ton cargo or M52 5 ton tractor. Closer in size to the Deuce and 50% more horsepower, its no Freightliner but may be a better compromise...

So I am watching the Discovery Channel Future wepons. And...

I remember in the early '70s doing AT out at Ft Drum on one occasion we were trucked out past the tank firing range. There was a whole bunch of what I guess were old Shermans down range as targets. What a pity to see those things all shot up!

Max towing capacity of a M35?

RE: This was 17,000 Halftrack - Awesome trailer! Tell me more about it, I am looking for something just like that. Make, capacity, etc.

Max towing capacity of a M35?

NOT a good idea to 21,000 pounds with a Deuce. With a converter dolly and trailer with air brakes, maybe for short trips, but a 5 ton would be a much better choice!

    keyway question

jwaller - Either I don't understand what you are saying, or you'd better go check your -34P TM. Mine shows a "seal, plain encased" inboard of the inner wheel bearing. Strangely enough, it does NOT show an inner seal on the front hub! Unless its show someplace other than the hub breakdown, the...

    Oil pressure gauge

My original electrical oil pressure gauge was constantly giving me problems. I'd pull the gauge panel out, clean all the connections, same at the sender, do all the diagnostics, put it all back together again. It would work fine for a month, a week, a day, or an hour, then screw up again...

    Cargo Cover Options

I used Krylon "Fusion" camo paint in the rattle can to touch up my vinyl cover. It is specifically made for use on composites, it lightly etches the underlayment to get a good grip on the plastic. The touch up I did last summer (2006) still looks great.

    2.5ton vs 5ton axles

With a single rear axle and single rear tires, I doubt the frame is the load limiting factor, as the frame is rated to support two rear axles and 4 tires. The limiting factor is going to be the lesser of the tire capacity, axle capacity, or suspension capacity. Michelin 395/85R20 XZL tires are...

grease mess in the front end

Did you check for a leak in your knuckle boot? If its grease, not oil, the only place it can come from is the knuckle and if its on the inside the only way it can get there is through or around the boot.

    Installed pryometer

I have the same gauge, also with the dropping resistor (actually its a zener diode). It works OK in warm weather, but when its cold out the gauge gives flaky readings until the diode warms up. I'm thinking of adding a 24V-12V converter for a number of reasons, and feeding the Pyro off that...

    Change those filters

FT - Here are the illustration and parts list from the -20P TM. Hope this helps. Are those fuel filter elements OEM? How did they seal to the filter bases? I bought a set of Baldwin elements but the primary didn't seem to fit like the OEM filters, it had a flat top and bottom and cork gasket...
