I was thinking on a lighter type bed. Like James was saying about removing cab shield, that and the tailgate might be alright. I have an aluminum dump flatbed, on my new Dodge 5500, that I can mount sides on when needed. I too haul alot of road rock on the farm, just didn't like the look of 817...
Well, that's what I was thinking but didn't know how rare the 817 with the lockers and winch are. I guess you could add those and be ahead. I wasn't planning on using the bed as such, maybe some other type bed. I would want the dump capability. Just kicking it around. Can get a nice 818 w/winch...
I need to ask you 5 ton guys about the USMC M817 is it the only dump that came with lockers and winch. How common are they. Could you put the different pto and hydro. lift on a 818 to make a dump. How common are those parts. I hope this was somewhat clear as to what I would like to do. 818 or...
I feel like a slackard, reading about everybody's work. all I could muster is driving to town for charcoal. She did run good, but I need to do what all you already did. I retired last week so why am I waiting. Wifes stuff first?
Good job so far, I think you can make that deadline. Are you going to leave things stock, like brakes and steering. My M37 has 4 wheel discs and power steering added. To me these are great improvements over stock. I drive it everyday. I'm not a purist in any sence of the word, but understand the...
I've been reading this with enjoyment, you are doing a good job of it. I was planning on moving up to a 5 ton, thinking about a M818 with a dump bed. But! you got me thinking of a M817. Some questions if I could, are the 817 and 818 the same wheel base. Meaning from the front wheels to front...
I'm still confused about the different tire sizes we can use on the recentered Hemtt wheels. Could somebody list them. Just in case you would have to switch at some point. that's a big investment to be stuck with one size tire.
Thanks
Ron
Sorry you're having pains with your brakes, but I would like to thank everyone for responding. I have learned alot about finding brake problems. Please keep us posted on your fix. Good luck! Ron
Truck is looking good. Lets hear about the bed. What have you got planned. I bought two 105 trailers to use their beds if I bob one. Looks like your having some fun with it. Ron
Greetings, Always good to have another member from the Show Me State! Wish I could help you , but I'm still learning about my M35 and M37. Good luck, Ron
Thanks for the thumbs up on the m37, game on! On the passport, I just a book called the Milepost and I thought it says you don't need a passport. You do need alot of Identity, passport being one option. I've got one other problem with a six week trip. I live on a farm and have animals, so I've...
My 51 m37 is all done, except the engine and transmission. 3/4 ton chevy disc brakes and power steering, 4.89 gears are already in, I don't think you can get any other gears for the m37, other than stock ( 5.38 ? ) and 4.89. The trip is a good reason to get moving on the conversion! I hope the...
I'm kicking this around. what do you all think about a m37 w/w, 4 wheel disc brakes, 4bt, power steering, deuce transmission, 4:89 gears, 11/16 mich. tires, pulling a m101 trailer setup for camping. I would trailer it all to Dawson Creek with my 5500 Dodge cab & chassis and leave from there...
Stumps, Thank you for that write up. My blower is working good, but the day will come. I'll at least try to fix mine now. Amasing what some of you know about these trucks. Ron
I'm a new guy, but I'd like to say how much I enjoy everyday reading all the different threads. I spend one hour a day on the computer ( while I drink my two beers ) 95 percent of it is with you guys. Whatever you want to do is alright by me. Thank All of You for this site!:grd: Ron
Good news! It's always a good feeling to test drive something you spent time building. But, I would think you have plenty to do yet while waiting for the alternator. A working water pump is high on the list, before you run into town with it for a six pack :D. Keep at it and keep us updated.
Very well thought out plans, but you're right stay on the engine swap and get it done right. That's my biggest fault, well one of my biggest, I start too many projects at one time.
Good luck, but I don't think you really need luck, you've got it spot on now. Keep us posted
