I vote for the other 6.2 . No engineering needed, its there, maybe its a good one instead of a lemon like you might have had. If it flops you got the 454, stick it in there and I doubt you would be a 6.2 fan for the rest of your days.
Welcome aboard , enjoy the truck. Good maintenance is key. Study threads on the brakes. Use search function. I like to click advanced search and search only titles for key words. Just try some stuff and have fun.
I thought this thread would take off a little faster. I agree, interesting idea. At first I was thinking 2 ton truck, wreckerman says at least 1 1/4 ton. Maybe I can see that or 1 1/2 ton. Beef up the front end a bit and use it on the road for pulling. 2 wheel drive, higher gear choices for...
Almost everyone else in the world would be far ahead by following mikews' advise but if you got a great engine builer like that, that will do all that for cheap or free? hmmm you would have one of the best multifuels around. Did I hear mention of IP rebuilding, calibration, injector work? Maybe...
How bout Subaru Brat? Seriously now. It would have to be a heavy truck to have a front end to hold that sucker up. I had thought of that too. I just dont see it going in anything less then a 2 ton truck. Not exactly a heck of alot different then a deuce. Maybe a little better seat.
The tires should all be the same size. I dont know if it would have hurt anything yet but it needs to be corrected, What size tires does it got on the front and rear. are the rear duals?
Sorry to hear that . Well back on the trusty internet to do some engine hunting. Some searching on here for different options. I would be trying to find an LDS. I dont know how hard they are to find. Could be a pile of em somewhere but it rarely seems to be close to home.
I had this same experience today with my M817. Greenish yellow brake fluid came out . It has a sticker on the MC that says use silicone brake fluid only so I was good with that. It has an MC full of purple dot 5 now and purple runs through its veins as well.
Thats pretty darn interesting! SONEX RESEARCH I wonder what engines they have these available for. If it says, I missed it. If for the small block chev (SBC) just about anything else you could ever possibly need is available...Making it a good off the shelf find...I need to read more about this.
Would the computer controlled engines do a better job of efficiently burning sayyyy 50/50 diesel / filtered WMO or the older mechanical diesel be the better bet? (I bet a guy could get away with that in a moderately warm climate with little or no mods)
This is a related thread that I remembered posting to awhile back http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/54647-modern-multifuel-redesign.html if someone wanted to check it out. This thread is not the same tho. I like the pre computer 5.9 as a starting point like oldman99...
Here ya go for the octane def. Octane rating - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Info jives well with my training in Motorcycle Mechanics Institute back in the late 80's. It has been a long time, that was a good memory refresher
Running avgas in a high compression GASOLINE engine is fine and often done by motor sport enthusiests . Once lit with the spark plug, that low flashpoint burns it thoroughly and quickly. Very controllable and predictable.
The deuce has no spark plug to light it. The high octane rating...
I respectfully disagree with this. AVgas is a high octane gas for high compression gasoline engines. It resists "dieseling" or pre-ingiting under compression, so the spark can light it in a controlled manner. The resistance to dieseling is the problem in a muli-fuel.
As you read through these alternative fuel threads you begin to pick up on this lil tidbit (at least I seemed too) Sure the multi will combust (pop, diesel, burn, guzzle) just about any fuel. Its optimumized for diesel tho, so a good trick is to try and make your other fuels as close to diesel...
Even though the piston and rings are in the pic, that may only be the sleeve for that money. Hmmmmm if you can put that DT466 in there, that may be a good answer.
