Also, be sure to inspect the bolts on the surge brake/frame. I have come across several A2's that were missing one or more or they were very loose.

Does sound like the bearings are going out or the spindle nut is too tight.. Try searching and you will find the part numbers.. They are there.. ODIron has the bearings...

The purpose is for expansion. If the breaks are use enough it will cause the fluid to heat up enough to cause both the air in the reservoir and the fluid to expand causing the breaks to be applied. So, a vent tube allows the expansion or some have a mushroom looking cap that has an expansion...
