I concur with all above. The Cab and Chassis has the narrow rear, the dually pickup has the wide rear, dana 70. This is how the truck should look from the back. I have yet to put the dually fenders and the 3rd and 4th tires on this one yet.
The one in pieces might be for sale soon . . . Got the new one to run today, all it needed was 2 good batteries and some cleaned up battery terminals. I think the description of the truck was wrong in a good way for once. It was supposed to have bad tires and a bad trans. Has 6 very good non dry...
A few years back I picked up a bunch of Chevy Truck data books at a car dealer auction. Looking under the option section it looks like the rear sway bar came with the Z81 Camper Special package. The page below is from the 1986 data book. Also in the Cab and Chassis section it states it was...
Last live GSA auction in my area was November 2009 at Bordentown NJ, had about 16 of them, mangaed to buy a M1008 and a M1010, cheap! Check out Manheim, they even have a few here and there also.

Randy,
The snow wasn't that deep! I'm sure he could have pulled it out but I offered. Doubled the chain up from my pintle to the deuce's front winch hook. Towed it out in 4wd low. No problem!
Visited and bought a complete CUCV bed from Eastern Surplus today. Very good experience with the salesman named Caswell. Luckily went with the M1028a1. Had to pull a deuce out of a snowbank first (bed was in back of truck and truck didn't run) . Wonder when or if my truck ever did that before...
Be careful, just because it shows a SECM body doesn't mean its a M1031 always.
A M1031 will have a "B" as its 3rd digit in the serial number. The ones you showed are M1031s.
Some are mounted on M1028s though.
I bought a pair of residue CUCV trucks from Mechanicsburg site unseen a few years back. One was almost complete except for the seat and front axle. One of the best parts truck I've ever had for the price, had had a recent paint job, all the metal was straight, parted out just about everything...
Update, got the truck to run (needed a rear battery), charges correctly, this is also one of those SUPER rare GL trucks WITHOUT a bent driveshaft. VIN info on dash sheets states its an ambulance, bucket seats (which it doesn't have) there is no cab cut out so it was converted for something else.
