I heard about this wreck on another forum. Terrible thing to have happen, regardless of our hobby. It's sad to read his recovery thread.
On the rops;
I've never seen a bent railroad rail... If weight's not an issue, welded rail's in the proper configuration would probably have no problem...
That's an A1 or A2 cargo box, and at least an M116A2 frame. It could be an A3 frame, but I'd expect the wheels to stick out further from under the cargo box if so.
The fenders on the later A3's stick out much further to cover the wider A3 axle. Early A3's with the same track-width as the A2's...
This GL event was pretty odd. M35A3's out of Meade went for about half usual, but other trucks around the country went for way more than I've ever seen them go for.
I saw that one, I thought it pretty odd that it had those wheels as an A2. They are bigger tires and will make it ride a little higher. They're also wide and set in more, so I'm surprised they clear the frame and wheel well.
Good price on it, too. An A2 in New Jersey just went for double...
Is there a cover on the drawbar that you can pull off and find a junction box underneath?
I don't know anything about 105's, but all the 101's have that, I've rewired several for 12v flat 4-wire connectors.
What I've found works nice is wire loom and black plumbing repair tape and bullet...
That black and tan/white pattern is pretty cool looking. If you're not going for an original look, I'd say stick with that.
Also, that does look like carc. If you're not sure, probably safer to assume it is and take proper precautions. Don't sand it without a respirator or over the area near...
Going front to back is already stacked in your favor by way of the axle and tires creating a pivot point in the middle of the trailer. Trying to pull it over the side means for a part of the flip process, you're depending on the side of a single tire being the only pivot point, too much...
These are my diamonds... I treat them way better than the government does...:D
By the way, the A1 with the damaged sheetmetal was that way when I bought it from Uncle Sam, I just checked and it's clearly visible in the auction listing. The damage I did while flipping was scratching up the...
I've searched this question a dozen times and haven't really found anything comprehensive, so I decided to put something together for other novices like me...
edit:
I'm taking someone's advice/request and removing the "how to" section of this post. I'll leave the photos for interested party's...
I like the tool boxes. They look good at least, even if it seems that they're poor quality... I'm not crazy about the space they take up, though. I'd like to see if they can be mounted to the exterior of the trailer cargo box. That might work out pretty good on a later A3 with the wider fenders...
A simple way to test the continuity and insulation of the wires is to put a meter probe on one conductor at end of the cable, and test every conductor at the other end of the cable with the other probe. Do that for each conductor (it goes a lot faster than it sounds), and you'll find which ones...
I lined the entire interior of an A2 bed with Rustoleum truck bed liner, but I soda blasted the carc and primed first. Some carc didn't want to come off, so I left it, then primed and lined over it. It came out pretty nice, but chips easy with abrasive loads like the metal cover bows.
Edit: What...
I've recovered 6 trailers from Ft. Meade now, great experience each time, excluding when the dog handler at the gate asked me if I wanted to get bit that day.
I'm thinking about converting an M101 to hydraulic ram dump instead of the not-quite-designed built in dump method. I'm going to run over to Harbor Freight today and see what I can piece together with a simple hand-pump 24" hydraulic ram to lift the frame from the drawbar.
Such as this:

It sure is, I don't know what comes over me when I start bidding... I really have to stop looking, too.
Thanks for the offer... I have to get 2 M101's and 2 M116's, so I might need to rent a 25' this time. I have to look at all the measurements and see how I can creatively stack them without...
