Need More Power From The Chrysler 230 Flathead

I wouldn't want to push the 230 flathead any harder than milling the head a little. Having said that, I saw a truck at the Vintage Power Wagon Rally that had a 230 that was capable of turning 3600 RPM. The owner (Doug (Tex) Garrison) had built it on a bet and ran it to is home in Southern...

RE: Here is one way Citizensoldier wrote: Let me noodle on that a while. I just sold a truck and trailer load of M37 stuff. I kept two trucks, one has NOS everything AND 489 gears w/F&R lockers and another truck that is basically an excellent rolling chassis. I may sell all my M37 stuff and...

    In-Tank Fuel Pump Dilema

Over the past few months, after having trouble with my original in-tank fuel pump I've been going back and forth between running stock in-tank pumps and OD Iron's in-line pump. I'm sharing this so you may gain some insight from my experiences. First ... I suspect that I was also having fuel...

Need More Power From The Chrysler 230 Flathead

RE: Here is one way At one time I thought I had a 265 engine located. After purchasing it, bringing it home and pulling the head I discovered it is a 251. Last week I did it again. I bought an old dump truck that was rumored to be powered by a 265. Because the block has a full flow oil system I...

Emergency! Road Trip - Transfer Case Leak/Hot

cleb wrote: I'd like to know more about the shims. I've recently been fighting in-tank fuel pump problems. So I don't step on this thread I'm making a seperate thread/post to explain some of my frustrations. Glad you make it home. Getting these old trucks on the other side of the curve...

    Fuel Economy of Alternative fuels

RE: Re: RE: Re: Fuel Economy of Alternative fuels I'm afraid to run ATF because of the color. I've heard if you get stopped and checked it's hard to explain that you're running ATF and not off-road diesel.

Emergency! Road Trip - Transfer Case Leak/Hot

On a recent 650 mile round trip to Minneapolis I noticed 80-90 was spitting out of somewhere on the top of the transfer case. I coudln't tell exactly where it was coming from. It was an 80 degree day the the t-case was too hot to touch for very long. Before leaving I had checked the fluids. When...

    Forty Below Zero Deuce

RE: Re: Forty Below Zero Deuce I've used a propane torch and stove pipe more than once. It's a very effective tool and one of the bad things about the electric oil pan heating pads is once they are installed you can't use a torch or pan of charcoal without destroying the heating pads.

    IP Pump Calibration For Economy

Srjeeper wrote: I don't know but with going on 2,000 miles on the engine I would "think" (once again, I'm not sure) it would be pretty close to being broke in. I'm going to change the oil for the first time tomorrow. I'm not sure how long you should run break-in oil before changing it.

    Forty Below Zero Deuce

Well here it is 11 months later and I'm finally finishing the "Forty Below Zero Deuce" project. It was always my intention to add dual freeze plug block heaters, oil pan heaters and a float charger to the mix. I elected to go with two 600 watt freeze plug block heaters versus one large 1,200...

    IP Pump Calibration For Economy

I checked the oil today and found it to be 2 quarts low after approx 2,000 miles. Some of these miles were put on while weighing (grossing with trailer) 28,000 pounds so on a new (un-broke-in) engine I don't think 2 quarts low is out of line. My FDC is bypassed and my oil pressure is unchange...

    IP Pump Calibration For Economy

Yes ... I was in high range. It sounds like we are thinking alike. The last thing I want to do is invite completities but I wonder how changing the timing would effect overall fuel effitiency. If you've got an engine that was designed and configured to pull three of four times the weight its...
