I removed the shutdown cover and moved the lever forward hit the starter button and she hit on the 1st cylinder and went immediately to the rev limiter. I didn't know that the shutdown lever was spring operated internally and after working it back and forth she would start and idle. Until that...
This truck was driven in to it's parking spot and not turned over in about 9 years. The fuel tank was drained, new fuel filters installed, and 4 lines bled at the injectors. The remaining 2 lines are stuck and will twist off before I can get them loose. PB blaster has been used for days without...
The truck is 24v but a few of the parts in the system have been replaced by substitutes, but the system itself has not been modified. The solenoid is not activated all the time, it actually is not activated when it should be for much of the time that the wait light is on.
This is a new one for me on glow plugs. I have had them not work, because of the card being burned, solenoid burned out, glow plugs burned, but I have not had them work and then quit and then work again in the same glow plug cycle. When they are off more than they are on the wait light stays on...
updating what I found....For one I was wrong about the doghead relay. When you say you never had a problem with it you better knock on some wood, I didn't. The starter checked out bad at a supposably reputable rebuilder. They said it needed a total rebuild. I was suspect of this info. One new...
There is a return line off the injection pump that gets clogged with pieces of the pump. Clean that oriface and you can usually get home before it clogs again. You will need to replace your pump in this case as it is on it's last legs.
I did the mod to one truck I own, that I used to drive a lot, but I have owned many more that I have not done that to in the last 10 years or more without incident. I'm not as sold as others here that it is critically needed. It seems that many CUCV owners think that the relay is a failure...
An update on my M1009 starting problem. I removed the batteries and took them to my local Napa. They used the hand held tester and said they both tested fine. I took them both batteries fully charged. They have a tool that tests draw down, but doesn't do a draw down. After the test which showed...
I didn't have a chance today to check anything, but now I'm questioning my new batteries. I don't have a load tester but I will put a voltmeter on them. I hope tomorrow is a better day. On another sour note the starter in my daily driver gave indications it needs replacing. It gave the pause and...
I should check that, but the batteries are brand new, bought last month with sept '15 build dates. I also put chargers on both batteries and I put a 50 amp charger on the rear so I think battery charge is good but I should check that. The truck has no mods, that I can see and it operated fine...
I have this M1009 as a backup and everything was fine last month. New MC, new batteries, and everything was perfect when parked. I needed it today for the 1st time and no crank, just a loud clunk like a starter trying to turn over a frozen/seized engine, except the engine is not seized. I...
Every vehicle I have towed that wanted to counter steer would only counter steer in a turn that began from a stop. The cure was moving at least 1 wheel rotation before starting the turn. If I forgot to do this, I would have to drag the towed vehicle across the intersection and hope nothing broke.
Hmmwv's weigh around 7500 depending on the configuration and accessories without armor. When I was towing the Mutt, I noticed it twitched around some in the rear view mirror but it was minor and not felt. CUCV's have always towed perfect, rock solid and true, but I have not towed any with...
Did the HMMWV have the goodyear biased tires? Everything with radials has always towed much better for me. I got a HMMWV back in October, but I drove mine home, I actually towed a Mutt 200 miles with it. Slow and somewhat noisy, but a fun trip.
I put a M1028 on a trailer and towed it 500 miles...
I remember getting 50mpg out of my I-mark, but usually it was closer to 40 because I drove mostly city and it was floored a lot as there was not much acceleration, everything was passing you, unless the downhill was long enough. When you had a hill in front of you that meant I would be...
You had a diesel chevette and I had a diesel Isuzu and we both run CUCV's. Helps explain why I read all of your posts, I guess. I had a bearing go out in the transmission on the Isuzu, but it was summer. I delivered mail out of that car back in 1983 and 84, 5 speed and all, the all being tiny...
When I got mine I thought it was a 64 a1 but the Budd tag says it's a 67 a1. And I don't know where they got the serial # for the data plate. It was made up too. It is on the title so that's what I care about.
I've bought quite a few CUCV's over the years and the ones that have been modified are the trucks that have ended up as parts vehicles. I feel the reason for this are changes done on a tight budget coupled with inexperienced or overconfident owners. Most of the problems arise from attempted...
I had about 8 alternators to rebuild recently and found out 4 of them had bad rotors. They had shorts. I figured that they were toast, but held onto them with the hope there was a fix for this that I was missing, because when the rotor is bad it is too expensive to replace. Otherwise the others...
Thanks Cucvrus, These that I got were off a 1966 1/2 ton 4x4. I have not tried them, so it sounds like they won't fit. If it wasn't pouring rain today I'd put one on. I know the wheel was made because I have one, but only one. I do have a set of aftermarket spoke wheels that are 16's but I don't...
