I agree that these trucks are tough and no 2 sound alike and some run smoother than others, but this one gives a definite dry start like a deuce. That hollow knock until the oil hits the bearings is not comforting. As far as opinions go, I appreciate them all!
Thanks
My son is driving one of my M1009's and let the oil level fall to 2 quarts low. After bringing the level up to full, there is a rod knocking noise, about 4 or 5 knocks until oil pressure is present on startup. Then everything sounds normal. Sounds like a dry start up, but I haven't noticed this...
The innovation, vast experience and new products are reasons I come to steelsoldiers. There is something new in almost every thread. Suspension questions are asked fairly often, and read them looking for information to store away for when I might need it. I would advise a CUCV poster to use the...
I hope they didn't hack the dash on you or cut holes in the doors for speakers. I hate it when that happens. I still have one of the 1st ones I bought where someone tried to sound proof the interior and I never took the stereo out because It would have a hole I couldn't cover. My son drives it...
I'll also add that I try to buy airforce trucks whenever possible. They are much better taken care of. The cabs aren't sat on, hoods not broke in the middle. The have a different shade of OD. Every one I've had was runway clean underneath too. Marine corps next, less abuse, good cabs. Army are...
I believe in the original CUCV, no mods. When people remove the bumper guard (yeah it's heavy)or drive around without the shackles they loose that military look which is so important. I have considered a few mods to enhance performance, but they can't be visible such as an overdrive trans or...
I have an original M1028 with 16k on it I will be selling soon. It does have aftermarket wheels because the Park service I got it from used it offroad. When I buy one of these the seat is one of the best indicators if not the best of how many miles that are on it. They don't make that vinyl any...
I have heard about Detroit Diesel designing the 6.2. It was part of the GM family, but I don't find myself easily convinced when GM is involved. Do you think they would scam you for a buck? NO not GM! My Dad bought a 1984 Cadillac new with the newly designed 350 Diesel, totally reworked they...
Welpro... total agreement here.
Someone earlier said it is basically a detroit diesel. That is misleading as the 6.2 is nothing like a Detroit Diesel. Any potential CUCV owners should forget they ever read that.
were any of you able to order directly from Auveco Products? I see it's #14924 in their catalog. In leu of Auveco where is the best place to order a box? I would like to get a box of 25 striker bushings . Thanks
One thing to remember was that GM diesels had a horrible reputation back then even though this one wasn't related to the olds conversion that didn't work.
I belong to the military vehicles collectors club of oregon, MVCCO, and I would say most of the club members don't know what a CUCV is. I don't attend many functions, but looking at the attendees and their vehicles, I have yet to see one in attendance in the newsletter. I took a M1009 to a...
Don't concern yourself with the weights, that is how it was balanced. If you don't have time to take it to be tested. Take it off and run the truck with the front wheels for a test.
My M1009 has a similar problem with vibration, but mine comes on strong on acceleration. Mine also acts like yours when reving in park. The engine mounts hold the engine with the brake on, but it shakes good at 35 and accelerating but goes away above 50. Any similar to that with your M1008? If...
