16 inch wheels on the M1009

Cucvrus, Are these wheels the plain steel wheels that look like M1008 wheels only 6 lug? 999, I'll check out vintiques, but the price of something like that usually keeps me in the UPULLIT yard. Thanks

16 inch wheels on the M1009

I've been looking for some 16" chevy steel 6 lug wheels off and on and finally found a set. They look like the M1008 wheels only 6 lug. The problem is I think they may be only 5.5" wide wheels. Tires are still on and I don't have a caliper. I have found some aftermarket 6 lug, spoke 16's but...

    Poltergeist in my CUCV

At 3:30 this morning the horn goes off in my truck. At 1st I didn't know what the sound was and I ran around the house trying to figure out where that sound is coming from. My son is up too now, the dog is barking, I open the front door.... horn blaring! Then it stopped for like 1 or 2 seconds...

Best Thing You've Found in Your CUCV

Full tank of rotten gas. I did get the truck cheap cause they stated in the listing that it will not start, hasn't run in over 3 years.

    M1009 vibration

no change in the vibration after I put a hmmwv wheel and tire in the back along with other spare parts. Not a lot of weight and maybe I'll try more but it seems unlikely it is the springs. The road I live on is new and smooth as glass, but it vibrates in 2nd gear at 35mph and is especially...

    Brake bleeding problems

Cucvrus, I first tried the 2 man method, I started in the rear. It took many, many pumps before any fluid showed. I thought something was wrong. The rear never flowed what I expected. I went to the front and they bled out normally. Since dot 3 and 5 got mixed I went with the cheaper, heavier dot...

    Brake bleeding problems

I've got a similar problem with a new MC on a new purchase M1009. A rear brake line was leaking and the PO refilled with dot 3. I blew out the lines, bench bled the new MC, hooked it up, but the rear brakes portion of the mc hardly produce any flow. The rear brakes don't work at all. At half...

    M1009 vibration

Replacing the front tires had no effect. I had these same rear tires on my sons truck where they ran fine. When the truck shifts from 2nd to third the vibration is hard to notice, because it is getting at the upper end of the vibe range. What seems to be is that while the vibes are lessening...

    M1009 vibration

I suppose it could be anything causing it, but the vibration is fast. I can see the glove box flutter at 40mph. It is not a bouncing type of oscillation. The road I live on was paved last month and the surface is smooth, very smooth, but the vibration is unchanged. I changed out my 2 front tires...

    M1009 vibration

It is not the driveline. I had the driveline totally rebuilt thinking it was the cause, but the vibration has not improved. I have run the hubs locked and unlocked without any difference. I have checked the motor mounts, but I will have to take a look at the trans mount. I'm going to put a...

    M1009 vibration

I had enough time yesterday to jack up the truck. No bent wheels. I watched the balancer while it was running and it has no wobble whatsoever. There is no vibration noticeable unless you are moving, and traveling at a steady speed, or coasting makes the vibration hardly noticeable. Accelerating...

    Nebulous, M1009

I bypassed the resistor totally and ran a 12v line to the same post that the resistor went to. That way the voltage never goes over 12 volts. The plugs still burn out occasionally but I avoid the domino effect on the rest of them when I lose one. I'll read the lenghty explanation when I have...

    M1009 vibration

I went to napa and bought 2, but the vibrating truck has them(my mistake), the smooth running truck that has slop back there doesn't. I'm going to install them in the truck where they are missing. So it must be something else making this truck vibrate. I can't find anything in the drivetrain...

    M1009 vibration

I looked at 4 of them in my driveway none of them had a clip in the u joint. The one my son uses runs smooth, but there is slop that a clip would correct. I can make it move a tiny amount by pulling on it. I'm going to give napa a call. Thanks

    M1009 vibration

When the sun comes up I'll check, but I don't remember seeing any when I installed it. In fact I don't ever remember seeing c clips on the rear caps on any of the M1009's I have flat towed over the years. It makes the same vibration as it did before I had the rear driveline rebuilt. The old...

    M1009 vibration

I have this noticeable vibration that seems to be strongest while accelerating between 35 and 45. I've looked at the damper and it is rock solid true running at idle. I had a u joint wear out and replaced that and had the driveline balanced at the same time. The vibration is a engine speed...

    Nebulous, M1009

I bypassed that resister for the glow plugs, so that they have 12V. I don't understand why that resister is needed. With it, if you lose 1 gp others will burn out quickly. With the resister bypassed the loss of one doesn't effect the rest.

Why are CUCV prices so much higher that Civi Chevs

Looks good! I know we all would like to find a deal like that. One thing I have noticed with GSA auction sales is that they now hide the detractors from the photo's. They used to be more up front, but the photo's were never good. At least that is my experience lately. Anybody else notice this...

Please help me decide. M1028 with auto or 3spd granny?

When I was younger I would have said manual, but now that I'm wiser(lol), I say auto. I like the stick for better control off road, but auto is a big plus with today's traffic. So bottom line is, with all other things equal with condition of the trucks I would go auto for primarily highway...
