    Tank filling

sorry Rustystud....that is exactly why I said earlier not to let it run out of fuel. I expect others suggesting running out of fuel were pulling your let too, but you never know for sure.... they may have been serious, and foolish.

    Tank filling

Make sure you run out of fuel where you have a nice place to park. If you run out on an overpass with no room to pull over, don't stop there go a little further where there is a nice wide spot.

    Tank filling

If you run out of fuel, getting it to run again on the side of the road can require lots more effort than pouring in a can of fuel. I would not do that.

    Tank filling

They are easy to pull when empty, but we aren't to sure of that yet.

    Tank filling

Three things I would do, get something flexible long enough to run inside and gently test the neck for an obstruction, check the vent too. Next when filling your tank turn the nozzle upside down and have it look like a water fountain. You will get no foam, but you have to go slow or you will...

    Tank filling

I have had tanks belch fuel if parked on an incline, but it sounds like your fuel gauge isn't working and your tank is full. The filler tube is the largest diameter I have seen behind a fuel door and attendants remark about that all the time. In Oregon you can't put gas in your own vehicle...

    1028 to 1009 body swap

The suspension of the M1028 would really be stiff. As far as needing that kind of weight hauling capacity or towing capacity, I can't see that you would. That is why I haven't heard of this being done. Putting The axles under is rather common because of the off road strength increase. That is...

Transmission shift points very high RPM's-86 m1009

I had the line crack at that connection, only a tiny split on the underside. Fixed that and normal shifting resumed.

    Bought a CUCV M1010 !

Looks good in the bushes! That is what I want to do, actually get off road. If possible go where you can make your own trails, not just dirt roads. I would like to see more pictures of CUCV's camping. Thanks

rear hub seals on 14 bolt ff

How did you get the seal out without damaging it? The old seals that were in mine were a real pain to get out too. The cheap seal pullet I got couldn't pull anything that wasn't ready to fall out. Putting seals in the hub is always a challenge for me too. Any pointers are appreciated, even a...

rear hub seals on 14 bolt ff

I think my truck was leaking because it was used for years as an offroad truck only. It was a national refuge truck that that saw alot of mud and sand use on a refuge that was very small. Heavy trailers and big rigs don't see off road use. I'm probably more worried because my truck is leaking...

rear hub seals on 14 bolt ff

I'm not an engineer but I don't like that design, especially for off road. One small seal surface keeping oil off the brake shoes and that seal surface is subject to sand, dirt and water. No wonder mine leaked. If the oil was kept out and grease was used the seal wouldn't have a liquid to keep...

    M1028a2 and a3

So the a1 and a2 while being PTO capable with the np205, they didn't have a PTO installed in them? If I was going to keep the M1028 I should look for that sway bar to add. The shelter I have is heavy. I think it says 3k. I'm going to have to run it across a scale.

    M1028a2 and a3

I have a ford camper with duals and compared to the SRW ford I used before I understand the stability. I was wondering about other uses. Were they used by all branches? How many were converted? and what was the PTO used for on the a2? I'll look for pictures. The main difference between the a2...

rear hub seals on 14 bolt ff

The sealing area on the spindle looks good and I saw the ORD seals. I wish I had those to finish this tomorrow. I just have regular seals. Oil in there does appear to be the design and it looks like an inevitable leak. As oil flows into the hub there is no way for it to exit except out the seal...

rear hub seals on 14 bolt ff

I'm doing a rear brake job as the seal leaked oil onto the brakes. After pulling everything apart I can only find an outer hub seal and that is all that the tm shows unless I'm missing it. How is oil kept out of the hub bearings? When I took this apart oil poured out of the hub. There was no...

    M1028a2 and a3

I'm inquiring about the dually pickups. Why did they get converted from the M1028's. I have a M1028, it hauls a shelter just fine, although a bit sluggish. Did the army have a different use? Were they used by all branches of the armed forces? With any different objectives? They would tow...

    Blown Spare/broken cover

I had an old spare tire in the back of my M1009 that blew out. This spare was on my sons M1009 the month before. It wasn't over inflated then. It was a size that didn't match so it was relegated to a spare. This is my daily driver but wasn't driven for a week while we were on a camping trip. The...

    cucv alternator rebuilding

It has been almost a month, but I finally fixed an alternator and thought I'd post what I found out in the last month. If your gen light is flickering, it is nothing to be concerned with if it happens at higher engine speeds and can be stopped with lights or the defroster being turned on. If you...

    cucv alternator rebuilding

I would strongly agree with you cpf240 except that taking the alternator off and on the truck is the most time consuming thing and I would rather save good parts and learn how to be more self-sufficient. I just had my well pump replaced last Friday because the pipes had rusted through. The pump...
