Speddmon hit on this above.
My 003 came with a bad battery charge gauge. I replaced it but it would still not give a reading. I, for whatever reason, had to run a ground to it to get it to work. You might just put a digital meter on it and see what you get. You may just have a bad indicator...
You did really good. Most of the M116 Cargo covers I have come across are trashed.
Check the filters (Air/oil/fuel) even if you don't plan on changing them. Sometimes they are missing..
Get anything in the tool box..?
Andy..
Get that aux fuel source going.
I have my 003 attached to a 55gal drum. Should get me through about 3-4 days in the winter and about 2 in the summer if we lose power.
This past winter we received more snow that I can remember and I was all excited that the power would go out and I could run...
Here are pics.
Run & stop...
On the end of the solenoid with the boot (left) it is threaded.
I was thinking about attaching a manual adjustment here that would limit how far it travels..
Just to make fine adjustments.
You need to use two wrenches to adjust as it is now, a little tricky, and I anticipate that with changes in temperature, say winter vs. summer it will need to be adjusted.
Andy..
My two 3KW generators are Yanmar conversions and do not have a manual throttle.
A push solenoid takes it to full throttle and then retracts fully when the set it turned off.
I would like to install a manual throttle adjustment and the easiest way would be to limit how far the solenoid is...
The electric pumps on these generators do not create a great deal of pressure. They just get the fuel to the IP.
**Be very careful with any fuel lines after the IP. The pressure supplied to the injectors is very high and will inject fuel in to your hand.. very bad thing...**
Andy...
I have two 701s on a M116 trailer. Both run and produce power.
The generator head on one makes more noise than the other. It sounds a bit like something rattling around but very loud. I can hear it over the generator. At first I thought a bolt was lose somewhere.
Could this be a sign of a...
You will be fine.. I tow my 003 on a 116 behind my 06 Tahoe without any issues..
Like AaronW said, get magnetic lights.
Just check the tires, etc like you normally would..?
You might consider getting/taking a spare with you.
You might take a little DOT5 with you just in case you're lucky...
First off, $750 is a great price.!! Does it have a ASK kit..?
Do you have the throttle turned down..? It should not be idled..
If you put a meter on the utility outlet do you get a reading..?
I'm much better with the engine side than the gen side. There are several very knowledgeable...
If you attach an external tank as designed, you will not need a return.
The on-board tank has a fuel level sensor that controls a fuel solenoid on the aux fuel pump. Once the on-board tank gets to about 3/4 full it will shut off. When the level drops it will open again and fill the on-board...
With the lines cracked and the start switch on but not started do you get any fuel from the lines..? Can you hear the pump? Might work your way along the fuel path see if there is an obstruction...
ETA, I had a problem with my 003 where the secondary fuel pump had failed and was clogged, it...
Problem solved..
It was the throttle solenoid. This also explains the hertz problem. I'm thinking that it was causing a small RPM fluctuation as it was failing. The hertz are rock steady now.. Fortunately I have a second, identical generator on the same trailer that works. I was able to go...
