    Starter solenoid

I would say yes it needs to be removed. I'm sure it is possible to do in place somehow, but will be MUCH easier to do on a work bench, and lets you get a better look at everything else going on with the starter.

    Tunnel clearance question

Rather than self tapping screws, you might consider investing in a rivnut tool and some riv nuts for this. I've lost count of the number of riv nuts I've installed into my truck for mounting various equipment and such. Makes it so you can easily remove and reinstall stuff without causing any...

    M1097A2 build thread

There is a little metal tag on the wire the burned part is connected to in your picture. The number on the wire tag will tell you what that wire does.

    Battery charging question

Yup, been there done that. Of course, my booster packs are massive overkill for this application.

    Battery charging question

I also use the same 5X2 charger, and have it installed under the seat. They are marine rated units, so no way they should ever make any sort of spark exposed to air. Manufacturer states that it is 100% safe to wire to batteries installed in series to each other. It's only flooded lead acid...

    Highest HMMWV serial number?

There are some in the 500XXX, 600XXX and I think I've seen some in the 700XXX range, but those are all early trucks that have gone through a reset program.

Flat towing Humvee with 40,000 lb military tow bar

So now I am going to once again plug away at the legality. You can't legally flat tow it without it having operational brakes. Most states it's 3k lbs, some it's as low as 2k lbs, and some up to 5k lbs. Massachusetts allows up to 10k lbs. Missouri seems to be the only state without a...

Flat towing Humvee with 40,000 lb military tow bar

You obviously know better than the people that wrote the manuals on how to treat your own vehicle. For the rest of us, no, it probably won't cause any issues, but it will affect fuel economy slightly with the extra mass being forced to spin. Short trip it likely won't be noticeable, but it...

Flat towing Humvee with 40,000 lb military tow bar

The operator's manual makes it pretty clear that it is the recommended procedure for towing the HMMWV that any wheels on the ground require the prop shaft to be disconnected.

M998 blowing white smoke almost constantly

How does the air filter restriction gauge on the dash look? White smoke can also be an excess of unburned fuel, and lack of power, especially under load, could be something as simple as a dirty air filter, or the mushroom cap over the air intake pushed down too far restricting air flow.

M998 blowing white smoke almost constantly

What color is the smoke? How does coolant level/color look? Any signs of water/coolant in the oil?

    2002 m1123 Brake Rotors

if it isn't an immediate need, then ordering from an OEM vendor is usually preferred, as they tend to be of higher quality than auto parts store import parts. Not always the case, but very common

    2002 m1123 Brake Rotors

I just looked up the one at HPG, used that part number in Napa's site, and only one option came up. Said it was for a few years of H1 that match what HPG says the part was used on. All the A2 variants use the same 12" rotors, and my truck is also an M1123, and I've replaced brake parts several...

    Fans mounted on the radiator

There was a mod in Iraq involving adding some electric fans to supplement the regular cooling system because honestly the HMMWV cooling system kind of sucks. It helps out in extreme heat, and would probably help keep the regular fan from coming on as often in lower heat conditions...

    2000 HMMWV M1123 Project

Or just do away with the plastic tank entirely and buy one of the aftermarket aluminum ones. They used to be about the same price as the real coolant tanks, but I think someone got rid of all the competition building them somehow and upped the price. As was just pointed out, too bright of a...

Flat towing Humvee with 40,000 lb military tow bar

Depends on the towing vehicle. Yes, it is definitely recommended that you disconnect the drive shafts at the differentials. Take some tape to hold the u-joint together and some straps to hold the shaft up out of the way. (I haven't seen the tape mentioned on any of the threads where people...

    How Hot Is Too Hot?

I think your laser thermometer is a lot fancier than the ones we're used to. You don't need it exact; all you are trying to find out is if it's close to where it should be or not.

Quick ? on sway with U haul style trailer

You mean this? In my defense, the truck is rated for the weight, and the center of gravity was a couple inches in front of the rear axle. The only thing nobody liked about it was the rear tires hanging off the back, but there are 8x12 blocks of wood supporting the frame, so very solidly...

Quick ? on sway with U haul style trailer

Also, doing a little research, unless you have an RV based on the Sprinter 3500XD chassis, you're limited to 5k lbs towing, so you are already above that even with the most basic stripped down HMMWV model. Not sure what 20k flatbed trailer you have with your F350, but it's definitely better...
