I say get another estimate or buy yourself some cheap transportation, do the job yourself, then sell the temporary vehicle. Take your time and learn how to do it.
It depends what you want to spend. I personally would rather buy one from a private party than a dealer or even from gl. The work you do on it makes it your truck, plus saves you alot of money. If you were up in OR, I'd sell you one. Watch craigslist, I have bought them there.
I didn't figure I would be towing my M101a2 off road. I replaced my pintle with one of those convertible Ball/pintle hook arrangements also. I like it, 2" ball or pintle.
I appreciate your advice stumps, I wasn't aware that that can happen. I hope I'm not in that kind of cold. Living in western OR we rarely see snow in the valley. I have turned my hubs in pulling a load over my GVW on long down grades, thinking it might create some more rolling resistance. I also...
The M1009 has the gov lock, a far cry from a detroit locker. If you have both wheels off the ground and you turn one of them and the other wheel turns the same way you have a posi of some kind in there. If the other wheel turns the opposite way it is open.
The M1009 isn't rated to tow that much weight. It will do it, but you will be exceeding what it was designed for. Do not go over 50mph, you don't want the tail wagging the dog and on any down grades keep your speed below 30, don't let it run out at the bottom of the hill even if the road is...
Nothing came stock, original with the locker, the CUCV's had it, but not the M1009. Alot of vehicles came with a posi as an option, possibly the Detroit locker too, but it was always an option. The CUCV's were not aline of trucks, but a military order.
ditto to all of the above. I have done both, tow bar and trailer. I won't do the tow bar again if I need to go above 35 mph or for any more than a very short distance. I would trailer with good trailer brakes but only if I planned on a long slow trip and the M1009 was the only thing I had...
Nice looking truck! I personally wouldn't use those rings to tie it down in that way, since a side load like that is pulling against the cotter key.2cents
I have the card is exactly like the far right card markg has.The number on it says 3484. I pulled this card awhile back because it didn't work, but it shows no burnt components. No z4 on it but there is a place labeled for the z4 but its blank.
I filled up my TC to where it started to come out the fill plug, I'm wondering now if I should take some out. One thing I've always wondered is why should the transmission be checked when hot? and how long does it take after you have done a refill for the torque converter to be filled so an...
Finding a place to work on it is the hardest part. Your IP is no good if you are having to clean out the return line. It is a time consuming job especially if it's your 1st time. If you are going to change out the injectors you will need the special socket. When I changed my IP last summer, I...
I accidentally backed over a TH350 with my deuce and it broke the back of the tranny just like a bad driveshaft would. When your tranny is on the ground try to keep your deuce away from it. Sorry I'm not much help.
I don't see how the relay could cause the wait light to come on if it is working and sending power to the glow plugs at start up. If the glow plug card is bad that would do it or the temp sensor telling the card the engine is still too cold.
When a shoe freezes to a drum and rusts can stick them too, backing breaks it loose easier than going forward. Since only one wheel is sticking, it must be the E brake cable needing to be alittle longer due to the lift. I would loosen that first. Then pull the drum if necessary.
I'm not qualified to say why one tire is better built than another, but from my experience, General tires fail. Of the 8 tires I have bought new for a car and a truck, 6 failed with tread separation. They were over 5 years old when they went, but of all the tires I have bought over the last 40...
