Thinks for the insight Dan,
The CarQuest guy that sold me the 80W-90 did indeed say it was made by Valvolene and confirmed that Valvolene said it was to MT-1 spec. The guy at CarQuest had never given me cause to doubt him but since it (the MT-1 spec) isn't written on the container I was a...
Dan --- Sorry to be dense but are you saying that if it's GL-5 it's yellow metal compatable?
I'm concerned about five gallons of GL-5 that I just bought that doesn't say anything about it being MT1 (yellow metal compatible)
It is my belief that GL-1 was the standard spec when the trucks were built and over the years GL-1 was replaced by GL-5. I "believe" that GL-5 can be used in place of GL-1 as long as it is also MT-1 (yellow metal compatible). I'm not sure of all this and I also do not know if it is harmful to...
Yes --- speed at a given RPM doesn't change.
I wasn't talking about speed. What I was trying to say was that I don't have to put my foot in it as hard to get the same RPM/speed.
I bought fuel yesterday for the first time since January.
I'd driven approx 40 miles before stopping for fuel and upon starting back out on the road I immediately noticed a marked difference in performace.
Before buying fuel I'd been running along at around 2,200 RPM --- a nice conservative...
The best I ever got with my bobbed deuce (with 395/85RX20s, spin out hubs, LDT465-1D, no fan, summer driving) was a little over 12MPG. For best economy I try to stay between 2,000 and 2,200 RPM. 2,000 is optimum. Over 2,400 RPMs and mileage goes south.
I had a guy come up to me today and complained that my bumper is too high off the ground.
I thought about telling him his butt was too far off the ground and that I would be happy to lower it --- clear to the ground. Not knowing who he was or what his motive was I dismissed him.
Anyone...
You have pretty much confirmed my fears and thoughts. Like you said, I don't think a lot of oil, if any, is bypassing the filters.
I agree with the filter blowout scenario. I guess I just needed to hear someone confirm it.
I'm going to leave the bypass valve alone.
Thanks,
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Engine Prelubricator
Does this look familiar?
It will produce 50 pounds of oil pressure in 30 seconds. I'm using a mechanical gauge and reading at the end of the oil galley (turbo).
On cold winter mornings it can take as long as 60 seconds to produce 50 psi. Once...
I just got back from an 85 mile run. During the trip I paid close attention to the oil pressure. Here is what I found
First, a little background. I'm running biulder77s 1970XE spin-on filters. I have three oil gauges. One guage reads between the oil pump and the filters. One reads immediately...

I'm starting to drive "Rosie" more though I've still only got a little over 400 miles on the new motor and have yet to do an accurate mileage check.
Today I drove to Virginia Minnesota, about an 84 mile round trip. I'm afraid to say too much for fear I'll tempt fate and...
RE: Cost
There's nothing stupid about your questions.
Builder77s and Jatonka's filter systems are listed in the classifieds. You can get current prices there.
As for the pre-lube system, that's a different story. Unless you can find a heavy duty 24 volt system you'll have to pretty much...

I assume when you wrote this you were referring to a deuce with standard 9:00 (40.9 dia) rubber.
Does this mean that a bobbed deuce with 395/85 (46.7 dia) rubber would be marginal on torque with .69 or .71 gears?
Yesterday evening I took the half-a-deuce (Rosie) over to a piece of woods property I own a couple of miles of where I live. After driving off the road and back into the property I stopped and walked around for a while.
When I got back home last night I noticed my water bottle was gone. I...
I think in the back of our minds we all silently dread the possibility of the dreaded head gasket monster knocking on our door (perhaps I should say fire deck).
Clinto's post takes away the mystery --- not the hard work but the mystery of what we're up against.
Thanks clinto

I've only got about 400 miles on the new motor BUT --- believe it or not, I can still see the dipstick through the oil when I check it. With a diesel this is pretty much undeard of. Between Builder77s 5-micron filters and the Amsoil bypass the system is getting the job...
