    Temp Gauge Issue

I replaced the idiot light sender with the send for my gauge located at the font on the driver's side.

    Temp Gauge Issue

According to TM-9-2815-237-34 the normal operating range for the 6.2 is 190-230*. The stock thermostat is 190-195. My temp gauge sat dead on 190 while driving, a little under while idling.

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

Stock truck at 55 is turning 2700 rpm's. Same truck with 4L80 at 75 is turning 2700 rpm's. Scale it back a bit and get the engine in the 2100-2200 rpm's and it will be a lot happier. I cruised my 1028 w/700r4 @ 65 and got combined 17 mpg. I never had a chance to do a road trip and see what...

    Dealing with a wreck

That would be awesome! This has been my fear, that they are just going to low ball it because "it's just an old Chevy". I'll let you know if it looks like I'll need it and I'll put a word out on the forum to see what other docs I can get. "Quick" is apparently not a word the records department...

    Dealing with a wreck

In the shot looking back down the frame, it looks to me like the frame has a twist. Starts just about above the tire and twists as it goes rear. I think a lot of the impact went under the truck and hit my springs and lifted. The bed jumped forward and bit the cab on the passenger side. My...

    Dealing with a wreck

Hey guys, I really appreciate all the well wishes. I'll heed the advice given and leave out medical/physical condition. Well on Saturday I called in to the police station and got the report number. I asked if the driver was insured and they said they didn't know as of yet and to call back on...

    Dealing with a wreck

Well the unfortunate happened. My 1028 is not so happy. I was rear ended on my way home from work. I left work just before 2 am, bars close at 2 here. I was in a 30 mph zone going between 25-30. I was slammed into by a car that was estimated by several witnesses to be traveling over 80 mph...

    Buying M1028, 50k or 150k miles?

How much wear is on the throttle and brake pedals? Most other wear (rust, dash & seat cracks, etc) can happen regardless of miles driven. Generally the pedals aren't getting rubbed unless the truck is going somewhere. It could go either way though. In your mind, just assume its 150. You'll...

    Wiring a lightbar

They are both 12v batteries. When connected in series you get 24v. If you are running wires straight off the battery you could technically use either. If you were to go off the rear battery you cannot ground your system to the truck you would have to make it a closed circuit back to that...

CUCV as my daily vehicle? or bad idea?

I drive my 1028 60 miles a day. I cruise nicely at 60-65 with my 700r4 trans. I do have another vehicle because there are days when the CUCV is down for repairs. If you only have one vehicle, even a brand new one, have a back up plan because there are days when things just happen. I would never...

M1008 Broke another Transfer Case Adapter

Even if your dented driveshaft isn't the culprit in this case, I would definitely have it balanced if possible or replaced. Off balanced shaft will beat the snot out of your transfer case and will break things.

Running one 12v alternator on a stock 24v system

Before I go any farther let me say, I am not advocating or encouraging this, it is not the proper way to run and may fail at any point. I just want to share my experience for informational purposes. The back story: shortly after getting my '28 gen 1 light came on. I rebuilt it and was back in...

    Jingling rear axle / driveshaft

JB Weld seems to have worked for the time being. Used used the putty stuff and just went all the way around the flange working it up under the the little gap. I guess this is a combination glue/shim, the hardens JB is acting as the shim. All I have say is that it's music to my ears not hearing...

    Jingling rear axle / driveshaft

Thanks for the ideas guys. I guess now I need a poll: do I glue it, whack it, or shim it?

    Jingling rear axle / driveshaft

It occurred to me to look in the parts manual is well. -34P does show it and just calls it a "dirt deflector". #4 in the attached picture. Is there supposed to be some type of retainer clip that keeps it from jiggling?

    Jingling rear axle / driveshaft

There is a metal ring between the yoke and retainer to the housing. It freely spins and jiggles in place and jingles as I drive down the road. What I've seen so far in the TM doesn't show or mention it. It doesn't seem to be a problem of any kind, however the jingle sound is annoying. Is...

2012 Sierra rear bench seat in 1028?

My intention would be to fab up the sliders from the current seat to fit to the new seat. As of yet I've had no time to look at the seat to get a sense of whether its worth bothering with or not. I'm in the tourist industry so unlike most of you, July 4th is not a vacation, but my busiest time...

2012 Sierra rear bench seat in 1028?

Neither is my seat. Good to know though, I'll sit in it before buying it to make sure I can live with it. Good call on checking a dealership, that hadn't occurred to me.

2012 Sierra rear bench seat in 1028?

It's hot as **** down here in South Texas and the vinyl seats are just about unbearable even with a seat cover. I came across the rear bench seat from a 2012 Sierra Crew Cab local on craigslist. In great shape, cloth seat with center fold down arm rest / cup holder, great price. Would this seat...

    Broken seatbelt bolts

They have 2 non carpet options and I definitely didn't want carpet. There was the vinyl for around $120 and rubber for around $150. I opted for vinyl and after shipping the final cost was right at $150
