My guess is that the cost of clogged filters would be greater than the value of the used oil, especially if you spill some on your boots when trying to filter it (this sort of thing has happened to me when I'm trying to be clever)
Not sure I'm an expert . But if you are converted to 12 v you only need one alternator. Your batteries need to be in parerelel. not seiries, so you have the negative terminals to each other and grounding to both frame(neg junction block on firewall) and engine, and your positives hooked up and...
If the manuals let you down, look at a 1028 or any k-30 duel wheel from around 1973 to 1988. check position of spring rests, also note spring pack ; there was a single and a 4 leaf helper available. Find an old junker and have rests cut off with torch. Bolt them on. Any spring shop can sell...
There are holes in the frame that will take the the spring rests for the helper spring. (the main suspension difference between the 1008 and 1028. ) Have never owned a 1031 but suspect it is simeilar underneath to 1028. The helper springs not only bear some weight,, the extra contact points...
This advice is similar to IRWFO. Which is good . I am Just filling it out more for someone who has spent less time under trucks. This has happened a few times in my 6.2 fleet. I have a good USA made screw extactor set made by Hanson. The first thing to try is reverse drill bits that come...
There are a lot of these Libby air cooled gen sets on auction at GL at this time. My guess is that they are deemed obsolete. Does anyone have any experiance with these. Are they reliable, exessively loud Any warnings. ?
I have gotten low price repair pannels from Erik Veng auto parts. they have lenses, fenders, door blanks and rocker repairs for chev trucks of the cucv era. Mabey not as good as NOS but easyer to get. I used to be able to buy from them direct, but these days they want you to buy through auto...
Wondering about comparisons between the two battery types. The 31s seem to have more amps in load test, and I'm guessing the 6tmf's have more deep cycle capacity. I've recently got some trucks from GL . I've had 3rd hand cucv's for 10 years, but this is my first encounter with govt originals...
I figured I'd be asked for a picture. Still trying to learn how to do that. took a picture and tried to put on here, but the film got ruined. .... I'm not stupid, just not good with computers. ...its just a radio rack, I figure with an ammo box sized power junction. . May be willing to sell...
I just got a 1008 with sig corp markings and a civilian cap. It has radio rack and a rectangular box with a lot of 3 pin connection sockets. Also noticed that the original aquisition price was over 30k. which is about twice most 1008's were originally bought for. Any idea what I've got? Thanks
I very much appreciete your scientific method, and your taking the time to do this. At one point when I was down on fluid, I added some dot 5, all I had at time to some 3. mixing the two had worked in some old all drum brake vehicles I,d had in past.
This was a 82 chev k-10 with 6.2. The...
I had one that started to go slow , when it failed, after I trailered it home, driven shaft pulled out from back as I removed it from truck.. .. I hope it is a simpeler problem for you, just a leaky line..or lift pump
sorry to say, probably yes. Leaking IP pump never good . If you try to accelerate, and it seems lame, and gets worse every trip until you have to tow it, it is probably IP pump. you are lucky to get back to home turf at this point. Definatly check out above suggestions first, but ...
looked up these 6.2 oil cooler lines last weekend; Dorman brand ; upper rb625154 lower ; rb625155. about $50 each. saw this at Auto Parts Warehouse, on line. Was going to try compression to burr fitting as suggested, but no one local had 1/2 id oil proof hose. Still may shorten and bypass...
There is or should be a freeze plug block heater in truck already. Look for the grounded 120v plug. sometimes they are tucked away pretty well . Look for plug on driver's side block under exaust manifold. If it is not working an after market one installed in heater hose will get you though...
RE: Power steering fluid inside my truck from HydraBooster.
Power steering fluid is the right thing to use, but atf should not make it fail right away , Perhaps the seals in the hydro boost were just as old and tired as the ps pump.
