Engine knocking and oil blowing from turbo

Did you happen to notice if there was any oil pressure when you re-started the engine?

Do you need a CDL for a 5 ton

HAA!!! The OP is asking about somebody he SAW driving a truck (probably someone he knows since he knows his age). He can look at the DMV website for his state and get his answer. Or wait for the guy to get pulled over and find out then. :-P

    M917 won't engine won't crank

Check the battery voltage while the starter is engaged. It should not be less than 18 -20 volts. Check each individual battery to see if you have more than 12 volts. I had sudden battery death in my M818; meaning I shut it off and 2 minutes later it would not start. I checked the individual...

    Air leak - behind dash

I had an air leak in the line from the firewall manifold to the air pressure gauge. It's 1/4 NPT so get a rubber air tool lead hose. They are about 12" long so you have to put a loop in them to take up the slack. I picked one up at the Chi-com (Harbor Freight) tool store for $1.

    POS transmission

If it's driving it has to be a bearing or bushing issue. Unless one of the synchronizers has come apart. Just for kicks, put the transfer case in neutral and run the transmission in second and third at low RPM. Vary the RPMs and see if you can hear any noises.

    No Electrical Flow!

I think you might find that your voltage reducers (24V to 12V units) have an idling current draw. In other words, they use power even with no load. They probably need to be on a switched circuit. Charge the batteries up and disconnect the voltage reducers from the battery. Then connect one...

    Alternator Rotation Direction

HA, HA, 1 and 1/3 HP! Good luck with that jj. Maybe if you can make that 1 and 1/3 HP at 12000 rpm. I think you will find that to turn that alternator fast enough with a B&S to make full output you will need about 5 HP. I am talking about driving the alternator with a lawn mower type engine...

    What could cause this EMERGENCY

I think the tractor is only required to have the spring brakes on one axle.

    Bobber Trip

I had a great time hanging out and visiting with everybody. We couldn't have had a nicer day for a MV outing. And Sonny's was good too. [thumbzup]

    Alternator Rotation Direction

The fan is the only potentially directional component. Most are centrifugal so they can go ether direction with no problem. To spin a 60 amp or more alternator fast enough to produce rated output you will need a big motor. If you look inside a Jimco or similar alternator/generator tester you...

    Armor Headlight Issue

Check the voltage. Unless there is other resistance in series with the bulb, it can not pull too many amps and blow. If all you did was change the bulbs and they worked before, it's something else. I would guess 12V bulbs or the voltage is high. Was the truck running? What did the dash volt...

    m818 brake issues

It might be better to figure out what the problem is. The TM will tell you how to adjust the brake shoes. If there is nothing wrong with the hardware up front, then it is either bearings or the airpack or master cylinder. Oh yeah, wheel cylinder could be sticking too. None of those will be fixed...

    Another CDL question..m275

My experience has been the license requirements go by the dash plate GCW. In the case of my M818, the dash plate says 75,690LBS highway. Now you can buy weighted tags for less weight and $$$. Or you can have the Antique tag that only shows the weight of the tractor. You can also go the RV...
