It is possible the the mounting surface is warped. Also which thermostat did you use? Possibly the wrong one and won't allow the housing to seal?
Unless you have deep pockets for the test equipment have a shop rebuilt it.
These are heavy duty pumps already.
I am not aware of Stanadyne still building these pumps for the 6.2L engine. You might find a NOS unit. But it will cost you.
Just start saving your pennies for an injector pump rebuild. It is not a question of if but when. Most of the pumps out there are 30+ years old and more than likely have never been rebuilt.
The CDRV is the tuna can shaped item on the passenger side of the engine.
The Throttle Vacuum Valve is on the side of the injector pump and controls the shifting of the transmission.

Since this is a discontinued item from GM, it is a great idea to make some. I would also make a few that are solid.
The Airtex 6150 shows to fit the 1967 Jeep J30 w/230 engine. Here are the spec that Jon on the Zone posted years ago.
You can also get this pump from Autozone and use it as just a fuelpump for the 230...no vacuum part...note that price varies by zip code...yours may be lower or higher:

Contact Recovry4x4 and get a correct key. Some of the ones on fleabay are cut wrong.
Also the ignition switch may have been changed and none of the stock keys will work
I would check the compression on the side of the engine with the smoke (all of them for that matter).
A couple of things come to mind. A bad injector or a stuck valve that is not allowing the fuel to ignite.
Trailer looks good. I would tow it but have a backup plan in place. Get it off base and check the bearings. While it is a good idea to take them apart and repack them (so you know their status) you can jack the tire off the ground and wiggle the wheel to see if the hub is loose. Also check for...
